BOWLERS START TO RETURN TO RINKS

- John Crilly

MERRIGUM BOWLS

The annual general meeting will now be held at 1pm on Sunday, September 26 at the clubrooms.

We need to have a quick meeting to ratify the new board, hear reports and set the charges for the new season.

At the completion of this meeting we will then proceed with the Open Day and a game of bowls.

Please wear your uniform and bring a plate for afternoon tea.

All COVID-19 procedures will be in action, masks, social distancing etc. There is no charge for this day. On Thursday our working bee will concentrate on getting the clubrooms ready for the Open Day.

We need all members to help on this morning.

Rob mowed the green on Thursday and it played in excellent fashion on Thursday afternoon.

Please note the first pennant dates have been changed. Saturday pennant begins on October 30 and Tuesday pennant begins on October 26.

The 60-and-over hopes to start on October 13.

TATURA BOWLS

Relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions has enabled bowlers to grace the greens with many of the Tatura locals checking out the facilities and dusting off their bowls.

Weather was a little temperamental with sun, showers and wind to contend with, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of those having a roll of bowls in preparation for the forthcoming pennant season.

With the COVID-19 pandemic uppermost in bowlers’ minds there is still much apprehension about the season getting under way and we may well be facing an interrupted season.

The Tatura Bowls Club has accordingly placed on the noticeboard all the ensuing year’s club events seeking member entries.

Any interruption to the pennant season may well allow the club to play some of these events. Members please enter those events for which you are eligible, for if the occasion arises some of these events may well be played at short notice.

Sixty-and-over co-ordinator Col Johnson advises that the scheduled season commencement for this competition is to be on Wednesday, October 13 with the first game to be held on the Tatura greens. Players please note that there is a list for interested and eligible players to make themselves available for this regular event on the club noticeboard.

Playing in this event gives participants the opportunity to play on a wide range of town venues throughout the region that they would not normally play on during a pennant season.
