Homeless man assaulted

A homeless man was assaulted in a Shepparton laneway earlier this month.

Shepparton police Constable Paul Meyer said the victim, aged in his 40s, flagged down a police car in Wyndham St at 4.45 am on September 13.

The man had facial injuries and a broken arm and alleged he had been assaulted by two or three people in a laneway across from the Queen’s Gardens, Constable Meyer said.

The victim thinks he may have been asleep when he was attacked and police believe it was a random attack.

A piece of wood that is believed to have been used in the attack was found broken into three pieces near the victim’s bedding, Constable Meyer said.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Constable Meyer at Shepparton police on 5820 5777.
