Melbourne Stars have Georgia on their mind

- By Liam Nash

For Euroa cricket prospect Georgia Gall no ceiling, glass or otherwise, seems sturdy enough to stop her from breaking through to professional stardom.

Gall, 17, has secured another season in the green of Melbourne Stars, penning a contract which will have her join the squad for the looming WBBL T20 competition.

Her signature comes as one prong in a trident of re-signings made by the Stars, alongside fellow emerging talent Rhys McKenna and dab hand Anna Lanning.

Stars WBBL head coach Jarrad Loughman spoke highly of the inclusions, hinting at Gall’s budding prowess as well as the potential she possesses.

“We had Georgia involved in the squad last season which proved to be great experience for her and we’re glad to offer Rhys the same opportunity this year,” Loughman said.

“With the support of our experienced coaching group, we know they will develop and push for selection throughout the season.”

Gall jumped aboard the Stars raft last season, but is yet to debut for the Melbourne powerhouse.

The left-armed all-rounder slotted into Cricket Victoria’s under19 emerging performance squad in 2020 alongside McKenna, also learning from the likes of Meg Lanning and Elyse Villani at Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club.

Rubbing shoulders with doyennes of the game has surely prepped her for what could be a breakout season for the teenager, where again, she’ll soak up skills passed down to her from the many experienced heads within the Stars camp.

Like Loughman, Anna Lanning was another excited at the injection of Gall and McKenna, and voiced her keenness to work alongside the youngsters in the upcoming WBBL campaign.

“We do exceptionally well in developing young players, so I am excited to work alongside both Georgia, Rhys and the other younger players to help them progress through the ranks and live out their cricketing dreams,” she said.
