Virus hits lunch again

- By Darren Linton

Shepparton’s Biggest Blokes Lunch has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to uncertainty over coronavirus restrictions.

Originally rescheduled to take place on November 12, the decision to cancel the event is in the best interests of keeping the community safe and healthy.

The funds raised from Shepparton’s Biggest Blokes Lunch events support GV Health to employ specialist prostate and bowel cancer nurses.

Mick Vandermeer, who shared his prostate cancer story publicly and was so thankful for the nursing support he received, raised $7000 which he was going to present at this year’s lunch.

Organising committee chairman Shane O’Sullivan said after not running an event last year, and now this year, the support of sponsors and table captains to keep the funding going for the nurses had been inspiring.

‘‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of those who have offered to donate their table money, so that we can continue our financial commitment despite the event not being able to go ahead,’’ he said.
