TALK ON THE AUSTRALIAN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR
Voices For Nicholls invites community members to a forum on Sunday about the state of the Australian agricultural sector.
The group is a nonpartisan collective which aims to speak up to politicians and candidates about the varied opinions and interests of its electorate.
During Sunday’s forum, author and Guardian journalist Gabrielle Chan will speak about her book, Why You Should Give a F*ck About Farming, which explores issues at stake in securing the future sustainability of Australian agriculture.
Committee member Sarah Thomson said Ms Chan’s book brought her attention to issues and questions she had never considered.
‘‘It’s become apparent how important and potentially fragile the food supply chain is,’’ she said.
‘‘Gabby’s talking about water policy as well — she describes it as The Hunger Games, and it’s a good concept with the MurrayDarling Basin Plan having gone pear-shaped for a variety of reasons.’’
The forum will explore questions such as: why is farming important to all Australians? What does climate change mean for farming? What do constituents need from politicians to ensure farming and food is secure?
Attendees are invited to submit questions during the Zoom meeting, which is expected to run for 90 minutes.
