Funding boost for Afghan services
CANBERRA: Support services for Afghan refugees recently evacuated to Australia will receive a $27 million boost over the next two years.
Almost $8 million has been committed to the Federal Government’s torture and trauma survivors’ assistance program.
A similar amount will go to Afghan-Australian community organisations which welcome and support new arrivals.
Specialist legal services to help evacuees on temporary humanitarian visas stay in Australia permanently will receive $6.4 million.
Almost $5 million will be spent on helping new arrivals learn about skills and education pathways to help them get a job.
