SHEPPARTON EAST A LEADING PLAYER IN RECRUITING STAKES AS IT LANDS MORE DEMONS FOR NEXT YEAR

- By AYDIN PAYNE

It might be the off-season, but multiple Kyabram District League clubs have been busy strengthening their senior football lists for next season.

Shepparton East, Dookie United and Girgarre have announced new signings.

For the Eagles, a quartet of Goulburn Valley League talent has made the journey out to Central Park Reserve in recent weeks.

Three are returning heroes, while one makes the trip out for the first time.

Shepparton United’s Matt Rendina, Adam Fichera and Tom McCluskey have departed Deakin Reserve, while defender Adem Barolli returns after a stint at the Shepparton Swans.

Rendina, a former Pearce Medal winner and premiership player, will bolster the midfield group after three years in the GVL.

His United teammate Fichera will be a welcome addition to the Eagles as a versatile option.

McCluskey played his junior footy at East and captained the thirds team to a premiership.

The tall ruckman has spent vital years under the tutelage of star ruckman Shane Neaves at United.

The four join the likes of David Gillespie and Nathan Barolli, who have returned to the Eagles’ nest alongside incoming coach Rob Osborne.

“Most of these boys have played at the club before, except for Adam, and it’s great to welcome them back,” Shepparton East president Stewart Cook said.

“The four of them join the likes of premiership players David Gillespie and Nath Barolli in returning.

“All of them should complement our junior players and it’s exciting for next year.”

Meanwhile, Dookie United has been busy announcing new players.

The Thunder have recruited Jordan Trevaskis, Dylan Mill, Jarad Newman and Henry Cook and Josh Preston.

Trevaskis will boost the Thunder’s firepower in attack, while Mill, Newman and Cook jump across after time at Shepparton United.

Elsewhere, Girgarre has bolstered its playing stocks for next season.

The Roos, who are fresh off signing former AFL player Damian Cupido as playing coach, have welcomed Rex Taylor and Wade Austin to the fold.

Taylor, a former Bendigo Bomber in the VFL, is a bestand-fairest and premiership winner at Rumbalara.

Austin joins the Roos after recent stints at Rumbalara and Mathoura.
