Planting the seeds for students to grow

-

At Ardmona Primary School, each student’s learning is of the highest importance, with learning and activities carefully planned and monitored to ensure the very highest standards are maintained.

The students at the school are organised into learning ability groups and can transition across the classes with targeted learning programs.

“We have unconditional positive regards for each and every one of our students, our kids are just amazing,” principal Jean Varty said.

Ardmona Primary School has an exceptional literacy and numeracy program as well as specialist subjects including an extensive physical education program, cooking and gardening, art, library, Italian and music, which includes African drumming.

Student Wellbeing and Education Support teacher Nathan Turner said Ardmona Primary School was wellresourced and equipped to run “so many fantastic programs each and every day that supports flexible learning opportunities for our students”.

Mother of three Rachel Matthews has two sons at the school and said no words could ever describe the impact Ardmona’s approach has had on their education.

Over the past six months the school has had a $150,000 upgrade to complete an outdoor learning space, as well as a $35,000 basketball and netball court upgrade, with a further $35,000 to be spent to increase outdoor classroom facilities and additional physical education programs.

The school has also received capital works project funding for a new $500,000 toilet block, which is set to commence by the end of the year.

An Attitudes Towards School survey found that Ardmona Primary School was above the state average, with a four-year average of about 90 per cent for students’ sense of connectedness to their school.

Some Ardmona Primary School students shared their favourite things about the school.

Peter, Year 5: “It is a great choice for a primary school because of the breakfast program and the sports element.”

Colt, Year 6: “The school is like a big family where you get to meet great people and make friends for life.”

Tayler, Year 4: “The learning is challenging and fun and you get to learn something new every day.”
