SHEPPARTON PARK

-

Congratulations to Bev Cahill on being included into the Goulburn Valley Bowls Hall of Fame.

Bev has been an exceptional bowler over many years and an outstanding contributor to Shepparton and Shepparton Park Bowls Clubs. A well-deserved recognition.

Pairs reverted to Fours last Thursday and players were pleased to be under cover when the rains came.

Pairs will continue on Thursdays when weather permits.

Names on the board or phone Graeme Sinclair on 0418 395 388 to play each week.

Last week’s winners were Ray Sellwood, Kate Bush, Bill Gullick and John Anderson with 38 points, two ahead of Di Hands, Marg Thorne and Alan Davis.

The jackpot eluded the patrons again and now stands at a considerable $260. Laurie McCarty, Brian Hall, Peter Cross and Joe Lia were all rewarded for resting touchers.

The Bowls Committee AGM and Presentation Night was held on Friday, April 29, and was quite well-attended with all participants enjoying a lovely meal.

Elected to positions of importance were Sandra Wallace (Ladies Bowls Director) Paul Becroft (Men’s Bowls Director, second year of a two-year term), and Marg McNamara as Bowls Committee Secretary. Perhaps the highest award at the club is the Club Person of the Year and this year it went to two outstanding contributors in Marg Stibbard and Rob Thorne. The midweek selection committee will comprise Bev Cahill, Cath Dudley, Di Hands, Vicki Whebell and Angelo Russo (emergency, Wendy Holland).

Saturday selection has Rob Thorne, Glenn Edwards and Heath Matthews elected with two positions still to be filled. The grounds committee is very impressive with Doug Freeman, Syd Baulch, Alan Davis, Ken McNamara, Bruce Tully, Wes Gibbs, Murray Phillips, Ron Bartley and Barry Hubble all involved.

The match committee comprises Wendy Holland, Jim Shanahan, Wes Gibbs and David Slingo. Marg Thorne continues as booking officer, Jeff Boyle (publicity) and Bob Smith (member protection).

After a wonderful first-up effort this year, Annette Barkley and Joy Gardam will continue in the role of social directors. Congratulations to Kelvin Rogash and Marg Thorne on winning the club Canadian Pairs with Di Hands and Charlie Pellegrino runners-up. The recently-completed 100-up event was won by Paul Becroft with Charlie Pellegrino as runner-up.

No need to head north this year as there will be plenty of bowls at Shepparton Park in under-cover comfort. Tuesday Ladies Fours will commence on May 10. Names on the board or contact convenor, Bev Cahill, on 0408 313 872.

Pairs will be held on Thursdays (reverting to Fours under cover if weather is inclement). On Fridays we have mixed two-bowl triples. This commences on May 13 and games consist of two games of 12 ends with an 11am start; $12.50 entry includes a soup and hot dog lunch. All welcome; contact person is Marg Stibbard on 0488 595 210.

The club will be holding a single-entry competition on Sunday, May 15 starting at 2pm. All welcome; $10 entry will include bowls, prizes and a light lunch. Entries to Annette Barkley on 0419 903 734.
