Forecast has Thunder descending on Stanhope

- By Aydin Payne

Dookie United has its sights firmly set on continuing a rich vein of form this weekend in round five of the Kyabram District League season.

The Thunder’s A-grade outfit secured its third straight win last week and now faces Stanhope at home on Sunday afternoon.

United has wedged itself inside the competition’s topfour on the back of its stunning form.

Stanhope, on the other hand, enters this clash following a 30-goal defeat to Nagambie.

However, the Lions have chalked up impressive wins over Merrigum and Rushworth respectively.

Speaking after the gritty 10-goal win over MurchisonToolamba, Dookie United co-coach Georgie O’Connor said her side felt like it was hitting its straps.

“We’re pretty happy with three wins now. We feel like we are putting ourselves in a good position,” she said.

“I think at the start of the year we were a bit unsure in ourselves still.

“We were working with an A and B-grade squad so we still hadn’t cemented our team.

“But I feel like now after a couple of weeks we’ve got a good set of girls that we can work with and it’s working really well.”

Around the courts on Saturday, Undera is at home to Merrigum while Rushworth welcomes Nagambie.

Violet Town and MurchisonToolamba will butt heads in what shapes up to be a tight contest.

Elsewhere, Avenel will fancy its chances against a winless Girgarre.

Ladder leader Tallygaroopna faces a resurgent Longwood outfit, while Shepparton East takes on fifth-placed Lancaster.
