They’re on the Waaia to the Kattery
Coming off two strong wins, a dangerous Katandra will welcome Waaia on Saturday afternoon.
The Kats have had mixed results to start the season, losing their first two games before two victories post the Easter bye.
For Waaia, it has been smooth sailing so far, with three wins and two byes to start the season.
Katandra coach Trent Herbert said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing Waaia after two good wins.
“They (Waaia) are the team to beat, everyone thinks, so it will be a good test to see where we’re at,” Herbert said.
“The confidence is up for a few boys which is good and hopefully we can keep the season going and get another win.”
Former Geelong VFL player Luke Smith has had a good start to the season for the Kats, while Corey Hickford, Thomas Jeffery and Jonty Wardle will all be ones to watch on the weekend.
“There’s no real individuals, it’s probably a level playing field really, everyone's just stepping up and playing their role which is good,” Herbert said.
“We’re not relying on a handful of blokes to try and win a game, we’re just keeping it as simple as we can and saying to everyone if you do your role the scoreboard will look after itself.”
The Kats will run out with a similar squad to recent weeks, with Waaia also set to name a relatively unchanged line-up.
Waaia coach Mark Meyland said the interrupted start to the season gave the Bombers a chance to welcome back some players into the side.
Tim Belford will likely come in for the Bombers, while Shaun Greenway, who made the move from Yarroweyah this season, is looking likely to make the squad.
“He’s (Greenway) always been the guy who has got plenty of the footy against us so it will be nice to have him playing for us now,” Meyland said.
“We’ll be extremely wary of them (Katandra), they were fairly close to Tungamah, who are
probably the benchmark, in round one, so they’re going to be a pretty handy side.
“I’d imagine that they’re going to be fairly fast and good users of the ball so we’ve just got to be wary and sort of play our part in keeping on top as much as we can.”
Despite an undefeated start to the year, Meyland said Waaia was not getting carried away with its premiership chances.
“I don’t think anyone’s getting carried away at the moment thinking we’re better than what we are, it’s just a matter of taking each week as it comes,” Meyland said.
Katandra and Waaia will do battle at 2.05pm at Katandra Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
In other games, Picola United will be looking to follow its big round five win when it travels to take on Jerilderie in Jerilderie.
Fourth-placed Katamatite will welcome fifth-placed Tocumwal in what is sure to be an exciting contest, while Berrigan will host Mathoura.
Blighty will take on Tungamah at the Blighty Recreation Reserve while Strathmerton will be looking to bounce back against Deni Rovers.
Katunga and Rennie will have a week off.
