Club calling for volunteers

- By Caitlyn Grant

As National Volunteer Week approaches, Shepparton Day Voice, Interests and Education of Women Club is calling on the community far and wide to lend a helping hand.

With more than 300 clubs across Australia, the VIEW Club is the Smith Family's largest community sponsor of Learning for Life students.

The club supports more than 1450 children and young people in need of assistance with their educational outcomes.

The Shepparton branch currently sponsors three students, done so through members’ community fundraising, spreading awareness and volunteering.

Members of Shepparton Day VIEW Club volunteer for the Smith Family by hosting Bunnings barbecues and holding trivia days.

A key theme of this year’s National Volunteer Week is togetherness through volunteering.

Shepparton Day VIEW Club president Susanne Wright said connection was more important now than ever before.

“Last year, COVID meant we couldn’t have that hands-on connection with the community, which was really hard for a lot of people,” she said.

“Volunteering is a great way to get back out there, make friends, and feel like you’re really making a difference to the lives of young people and their families.”

VIEW publicity officer Judi Tinker said the club was always looking for more volunteers to help out, even for a couple of hours.

“It’s about doing something to help people, we’re investing in the futures of children and young people in need by helping them to make the most of their education and thrive,” she said.

‘‘We are always looking for women to join us in supporting the Smith Family and we’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch and come along to our next meeting to learn more about VIEW.“

VIEW meets monthly on every third Wednesday for a meal and a chat at the Peppermill Inn, featuring guest speakers, fundraising, activities and building skills in areas of public speaking and debate.
