GOLD STANDARD
Take a look at one of the most unique cruise vessels to ride the waves
While it’s difficult to stand out in the superyacht world, there’s one surefire way to get noticed: paint your yacht gold. And that’s exactly what Palmer Johnson did with Khalilah, the first in the Netherlandsbased shipbuilder’s SuperSport series. At the owner’s request, the yacht’s exterior (and even the engine blocks) is completely gold. The yacht stands out in other ways too; built in 2015, it’s the world’s largest all-carbon yacht. And now, you can own it: Khalilah is currently listed for sale with Super Yachts Monaco, the asking price a cool €28.5 million (around $46.2 million).
It looks like the kind of boat you’d find a James Bond supervillain lounging on, and has plenty of grunt to match. According to Palmer Johnson, the SuperSport 48M’s carbon-composite construction represents a weight saving of approximately 20 tonnes, meaning the twin 16V MTU diesel M94 engines push it to its top speed of 26 knots with comparatively little fuel expenditure. Cruising at 15 knots, Khalilah has transatlantic range.
And while Khalilah is based in the Mediterranean, it’s free to roam far and wide. “Hot destinations at the moment are Indonesia, Myanmar, French Polynesia and the Caribbean, but my favourite would be the Indian Ocean,” says Jim Evans, Managing Director at Super Yachts Monaco.
The ultra-plush yacht puts the comfort of its passengers front and
centre, and accommodates up to 11 guests across five staterooms. The two spacious master suites are finished with bleached birch wood panelling and offer panoramic views from their full-length windows, and each cabin is designed around its own accent colour. The yacht also accommodates a crew of nine.
On the outside, there’s also plenty to talk about. The standout feature is the hull and superstructure, customfinished in Cordova Gold. Putting the bling aside, the wave-piercing bow and ultra-fine bow entry reduce pitching and slamming, and with its 11-metre beam, this is definitely a boat for the socialites. The aft deck is the perfect location for alfresco entertainment, with its covered outdoor dining area and glass panels to protect from the wind.
No superyacht would be complete without a selection of toys, and you’ll find plenty aboard Khalilah. Star among these is the seven-metre tender in matching gold, but there’s also a hoverboard, wakeboard, jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards, inflatables and even a jetpack. You won’t be bored.
And while Khalilah is currently for sale, it is also available for charter in the Mediterranean starting from €255,000 (about $413,460) per week through Super Yachts Monaco.
