The welcome song of Bula Maleya floats across the water as we arrive at the remote Mamanuca Island of Tokoriki. As our boat draws closer, we can make out the rainbow-coloured clothing of the large welcoming party, some with guitars and others holding out leis – a gift of love and appreciation – but all with smiles across their faces.

The Fijians are known for their happiness, and it doesn’t take long to rub off on those who visit, helped by the long white-sand beaches, cerulean waters and tropical cocktails.

At Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, you’ll get it all. Spend days discovering hidden beaches, snorkelling the reef just metres from the resort, having a spa treatment at Tokoriki Retreat Spa – the largest spa in the Mamanuca Islands – or relaxing by the beachside infinity pool.

To immerse in the local culture, head to the Coco Palms where you can take part in a kava ceremony and listen to traditional music and dance performances. At sundown, Tokoriki sunsets are dazzling to watch with a tropical cocktail in the al fresco bar, Sala Lounge. Dine on contemporary cuisine paired with endless ocean views at Waitui House Restaurant; indulge in authentic Indian dishes at Curcuma; or enjoy a traditional lovo-style barbecue at Coco Palms.

For those seeking romance, choose the adults-only oceanfront guestroom with plunge pool, where you can soak taking in the private views across the turquoise ocean.

Tee off on the mainland

Complete your stay by combining a few days (or longer) at sister property Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, just 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport on Denarau Island.

Days are spent at this beachside property splashing about in the sprawling lagoon-style swimming pool and guests also have access to the adjacent Sheraton Denarau Villas, and the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, where you can tee off at the world-class 18-hole golf course. Not confident with your swing? Resident golf professionals are on hand to provide lessons, or start off on the driving range.

If you want to bring the extended family, little ones will spend hours at the Side by Side Kids Club – and in the four swimming pools.

Fussy eaters need not worry as there are also six restaurants and bars to choose from, including the laidback 28g café and the trendy Tatavu Grill & Bar. Make the short trip to the two-hectare farm, where you can take a tour to see where the fruit, vegetables and herbs in each meal are grown organically.

Then, relax in your sprawling room featuring contemporary paintings by local artisan Sigavou Studios, where you can sit back and soak up the 180-degree ocean views – every room has them. marriott.com/en/ destinations/fiji.mi
