For a full list, see page 92 A great pattern for beginners, these gorgeous mitts are made up of 18 squares – like a mini granny blanket – so you can hook a square in one sitting. The puff stitch flower motifs add an extra-warm element to these sylish mitts, ideal for our changeable (and cold!) seasons…

[56 sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO MAKE UP

Block each square by pinning out flat to measure 7cm square, spray lightly with water and leave to dry.

Using Magic Tweed, join squares together in 3 rows of 3 squares (9 squares per mitt). Join squares together as follows: place 2 squares together with right sides facing, insert hook through middle dtr of front square, insert hook through middle dtr of back square, yrh, pull loop through and ch1, insert hook through next st and corresponding st of back square, yrh, pull loop through and ch1. Continue in this way until all sts and squares have been joined. Wrap your large square around to form a tube and working on the inside (the side where the crochet join is visible), join seam along the bottom 2 squares only. Fasten off and rejoin at the top of seam and join the top square to only halfway down. Fasten off. This creates a hole for your thumb.

THUMBS

Rejoin Magic Tweed to one side of thumbhole gap, ch1 (not counted as st), dc in each st around, aiming for 16 sts as this creates a nice sized thumb – you may have to work an extra dc into the top and bottom of the thumbhole gap to achieve this. Continue in a spiral, working dc in each st around until your thumb measures approx 2.5cm, ss in next st.

Fasten off.

Repeat for second mitt.

EDGING

For the bottom edge, join Magic Tweed to any st along bottom edge, ch2 (counts as htr), htr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Next row Ch3 (counts as tr), tr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-3.

Fasten off.

For the top edge, join Magic Tweed to any st along top edge, ch2 (counts as htr), htr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
