RAINBOW TABLE SET

Give everyone their own favourite colour coasters with this rainbow table set by Sara Huntington.

YOU WILL NEED

■ Scheepjes Twinkle (75% cotton,

25% polyester, 50g/130m)

2 balls of Yarn A Grey 911

1 ball of each: 925, 937, 933, 926, 929, 924, 936, 919, 930, 920, 910, 917, 909, 927, 928, 935, 923 ■ A 4.5mm hook

■ Felt for backing (optional)

18 sts x 24 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over pattern using a 4.5mm hook

FPttr Yrh 3 times, starting at the front, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the indicated st, yrh and pull up loop, (yrh and draw through 2 sts) 4 times

FPsixtr Yrh 6 times, starting at the front, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the indicated st, yrh and pull up loop, (yrh and draw through 2 sts) 7 times

NOTES

Yarn A is worked in Grey 911 for all patterns with Yarns B and C changing according to your choice of colours. We have used the colours in the rainbow sequence for the Table Runner and copied sections of this colour scheme for the Mats.

RELIEF SQUARE PATTERN

Row 1 (RS) See Row 1 of individual patterns for Table Runner and Mat.

Row 2 Ch1, dc in each st to end, turn.

Rows 3-4 Change to Yarn B, and repeat Row 2 twice more.

Rows 5-8 Change to Yarn C and repeat Row 2 four times more.

Row 9 Change to Yarn B, ch1, dc in each of the first 3 dc, *(FPttr around next st 5 rows below) twice, dc in each of next four sts, (FPttr around next st 5 rows below) twice, dc in each of next two sts; repeat from * across to last st, dc in last dc, turn.

Row 10 Repeat Row 2.

Row 11 Change to Yarn A, ch1, dc in first st *(FPsixtr around next st 9 rows below) twice, dc in each of next 8 sts; repeat from * across to last 3 sts, (FPsixtr around next st 9 rows below) twice, dc in last st, turn.

Row 12 Repeat Row 2.

Rows 3-12 set pattern.

TABLE RUNNER

Using Yarn A, ch35.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch to end, turn. [34 dc]

Rows 2-12 Work as Rows 2-12 of Relief Square Pattern.

Rows 13-162 Repeat Rows 3-12 of Relief Square Pattern changing Yarns A and B on each repeat.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

BORDER

With RS facing, join Yarn A to work across last row, ch3, 2tr in st at base of ch-3, tr in each of next 32 sts, 3tr in last st, rotate to work into row ends, work 98tr evenly along the long edge, rotate to work into starting ch, 3tr in first ch, tr in each of next 32 ch, 3tr in last ch, rotate to work into row ends, work 98tr evenly along the long edge, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join.

Fasten off and weave in ends. TO FINISH

Block to size.

If preferred, sew a felt backing to the WS of the work (optional).

MAT

Use Grey 911 as Yarn A and the other colours in an order of your choice.

Using Yarn A, ch25.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and each ch to end, turn. [24 dc]

Rows 2-12 Work as Rows 2-12 of Relief Square Pattern.

Rows 13-32 Repeat Rows 3-12 of Relief Square Pattern changing Yarns A and B on each repeat.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

BORDER

With RS facing, join Yarn A to work across last row, ch1, 3dc in first st, dc in each of next 22 sts, 3dc in last st, rotate to work into row ends, work 22dc evenly along the long edge, rotate to work into starting ch, 3dc in first ch, dc in each of next 22 ch, 3dc in last ch, rotate to work into row ends, work 22dc evenly along the long edge, ss to top of first dc to join.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO FINISH

Block to size.
