PASHMINA TRIM

What could be prettier than a border of oral motifs adorning a pashmina? By Sara Huntington.

A pashmina (or any large scarf) makes a clever travel companion. Adding a bright crocheted border takes them to the next level, and these floral motifs won’t take you long to do. Hook up and pop along the border of a plain pashmina. Voilà!

NOTES

You will need to make 32 Motifs in Peach, and 16 Motifs in each of Raspberry and Cerise. Each end of the pashmina will have two rows of Motifs, one row alternating between Peach and Cerise Motifs and the second row alternating between Peach and Raspberry Motifs. The Motifs are joined as you go on Round 3. You may need to make more or fewer Motifs depending on the size of your pashmina; we have used a pashmina measuring 100x180cm.

FLOWER MOTIF MAKE 64

Make a magic loop.

Round 1 Ch1, 12 dc into loop, ss into first dc to close. [12 sts]

Round 2 *Ch9, ss into same dc as base of ch, ch2, sk2, ss into next dc; repeat from * 3 times more. [4 ch-9 loops, 4 ch-2 sps]

Use Round 3a for the first Motif and Round 3b for Motifs that are being joined. Round 3a *Ch3, 4tr into ch-9 sp, ch1, 4tr into same ch-9 sp, ch3, dc into ch-2 sp; repeat from * 3 more times, fasten off. Round 3b Ch3, 4tr into first ch9 sp, ch1, ss into corresponding ch1 space on adjacent flower, ch1, 4tr into same ch9 sp, ch3, dc into next ch2 sp; repeat from * joining on one, two or three petals as required.

TO FINISH

Using the three colours in a repeating sequence, make a double row of joined flowers to the desired length for your pashmina. Weave in all ends. Block the Flower Motif trim and lightly press with a steam iron if necessary. Sew into position on the pashmina.

From the second motif on, join them together as you make each one.

Work two rows of flower motifs along the edges of the pashmina, for a double hit.
