What an ap-peeling pair! You’ll hook up this fruity fun jewellery by Bryony Hitchcock in just one evening.
YOU WILL NEED
■ Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush (100% mercerised cotton, 50g/280m), 1 ball of each:
Yarn A Lemon (280)
Yarn B Lemonade (403) Oddment of Yarn C Black Coffee (162) or a short length of brown/black stranded cotton
■ A 2.5mm (US B/1) hook
■ 2 earring hooks, available from

EARRINGS MAKE 2
Using Yarn A, make a magic loop, leaving a long tail.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 6dc into the ring, ss to top of beg dc to join, turn. [6 sts]
Round 2 Ch1, dc in each st around, ss to first dc, turn. [6 sts]
Round 3 Ch1, 2dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, ss to first dc, turn. [7 sts]
Round 4 Ch1, dc next 3 sts, 2dc in next st, dc last 3 sts, ss to first dc, turn. [8 sts]
Round 5 Ch1, dc in next 6 sts, 2dc in next st, dc, ss to first dc, turn. [9 sts]
Round 6 Ch1, 2htr in next st, htr next st, dc in next 6 sts, htr next st, ss to first htr, turn. [10 sts]
Round 7 Repeat Round 2. [10 sts]
Round 8 Ch1, 2htr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 7 sts, htr in next st, ss to first htr, turn. [11 sts]
Round 9 Ch1, 2dc in next st, dc in next 9 sts, 2dc in next st, ss to first dc, turn. [13 sts]

Round 11 Repeat Round 2. [15 sts] Work on in rows.
Row 12 Ch1, dc in fl of next 5 sts, turn.

Row 15 Ch1, dc, dc2tog, dc, turn. [3 sts]
Rows 16-17 Ch1, dc next 3 sts, turn. [3 sts]
Row 18 Ch1, dc2tog, dc, turn. [2 sts]
Row 19 Ch1, dc2tog.
Fasten off.
Join Yarn A to the first unworked st of Round 11 and repeat Rows 12-19 twice more so you have 3 sections of banana peel. Join Yarn B in bl of seventh st of Round 11.
Row 20 (RS) Working in the bl, ch1, dc next 2 sts, htr in next 4 sts, dc next 2 sts, turn. [8 sts]
Row 21 Ss first 2 sts, htr in next 4 sts, turn. [6 sts]
Now work in rounds over Row 21 and the remaining unworked bl from Round 11.
Round 22 Ch1, dc in next 6 sts, (dc2tog) 3 times, dc in next 3 sts, ss to first dc, turn. [12 sts]
Stuff top section loosely.
Round 23 Ch1, (dc next 2 sts, dc2tog) twice, dc next 4 sts, ss to first dc, turn. [10 sts]
Round 24 Ch1, htr next 3 sts, dc2tog, dc next 3 sts, dc2tog, ss to first htr, turn. [8 sts]
Round 25 Ch1, dc each st around, ss to first dc, turn. [8 sts]
Add more stuffing.
Round 26 Ch1, dc2tog, dc next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc next 2 sts, ss to first dc. [6 sts]
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Adjust stuffing and use tail to close the end of the Banana.
TO FINISH
With Yarn C, sew on eyes and a mouth. Use the tail from the magic loop to attach the earring hook and weave in ends. Turn the peel up as shown in the photos. Use hairspray to help keep in place if desired.
