ABBREVIATIONS

For a full list, see page 92 Cool cotton, a lacy stitch and a chilled-out shade make this the ultimate top for summer. The interlaced square design and rounded V-neck sure makes this garment stand out from the crowd.

NOTES

The Top is worked from the bottom up in filet mesh from the Chart (see page 94). Each square on the Chart is made up of 3 sts (ch2, skip 2 sts of previous row, tr in next st) for an open square, and (tr in next 3 sts) for a solid square. You will need to work a beginning ch-3 at the start of every row, which is not shown on the Chart. For the Back and the Front up to the Sleeve Extension shaping you will need to follow the portion of the Chart that applies to the size you are working. For example, for Size 8-10 you will only work the squares between the lines of your colour size (36 squares). Once you start increasing at the Sleeve Extension section, you will widen the piece and will need to refer to the Chart for the squares which are just outside your indicated size lines, which you will incorporate into the pattern as the width increases.

BACK

Work in patt from Chart as folls:

Row 1 (RS) Ch3 (to form side tr of first square), work (tr into each of next 2 ch, tr in next ch) for each solid square and (ch2, skip 2 ch, tr in next ch) for each open square across, turn.

[36 (40: 44: 48: 52) squares]

Row 2 Ch3 (to form side tr of first square), work (tr into next 3 sts) for each solid square and (ch2, skip 2 sts, tr in next tr) for each open square across, turn. These 2 rows form Rows 1 and 2 of Chart. Cont in patt from Chart, working Rows 3-40 once, and then repeating Chart Rows 1-40 until Back measures approx 34 (34.5: 35: 35.5: 36)cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Next row (RS) Ch6 (counts as dtr and ch2), tr into tr at base of ch-6 (half square increased by forming a triangle), patt until tr has been worked into top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch2, dtr into same place as last tr (half square increased by forming a triangle), turn.

Next row Ch6 (counts as dtr and ch2), tr into dtr at base of ch-6 (half square increased by forming a triangle), patt until tr has been worked into 4th ch of ch-6 at beg of previous row, ch2, dtr into same place as last tr (half square increased by forming a triangle), turn.
