How do I finish the Magic Knot?

Finish o the knot with some simple know-how…

-

Once you’ve made a knot in Yarn A, you’re halfway there. The next step is to make a knot in Yarn B, over the length of Yarn A. Here’s how:

Step 1 Slide the Yarn A knot up Yarn B slightly so that you’ve got plenty of Yarn B to work with.

Step 2 To start the Yarn B knot, take the end of Yarn B and place it over Yarn A, pointing upwards.

Step 3 Next, take the end of Yarn B behind Yarn A and then in front of Yarn B, pointing downwards. Use a crochet hook to help wrangle the yarn, if you need it.

Step 4 Finally, take the end of Yarn B behind the loop of Yarn B that you’ve made, then insert it into the loop from back to front, so the yarn end emerges at the front of the loop. Take your time with this step and make the loop larger if you need to. Step 5 Pull on both ends of Yarn B to tighten the knot. You will have made a strong knot over Yarn A.

Step 6 Now you can pull on the working ends of Yarns A and B to bring the two knots together.

Step 7 The two knots will hold each other in place to form a firm join between the two yarns.

Step 8 Trim the ends off the knot, taking care not to cut any of the yarn from the knot itself.

Step 9 The finished knot is strong and small, and best of all, there are no ends to weave in!

Tip You can also use the magic knot to join a new yarn at the end of a row or round – just work the first knot in the working yarn over the new yarn, positioning it carefully, then undo a few stitches to give you space to work the second knot in the new yarn.
