For a full list, see page 92 Take summery roses with you into cooler days with Ilaria’s bag, complete with its on-trend mustard background. Work the bag first, then embroider on the graphic rose trellis pattern. Bloomin’ lovely!

The Handbag is made up of three pieces: a Base, a Front Panel and a Back Panel. The rose pattern is embroidered onto the Front Panel using the Chart on page 94. To ensure the Handbag keeps its shape we’ve sewn a felt lining to the inside of the Handbag. The thicker the felt you use, the sturdier the Handbag will be.

Sew the Geometric Rose pattern onto one of the Panels, using running stitch for the green stitches and backstitch for the roses. Refer to the Chart on page 94. On the Chart, work across the bottom row, then work the repeat section twice more. This will work across 78 sts of the Panel; the first and last stitch of each row from the Panel is not included on the Chart and should be left plain. Work up the Chart, then repeat Rows 24-42 once more.

Each line on the Chart represents one stitch, which should run across 2 dc or 2 rows.

Before joining, measure the Base and Panels then take 1.5cm off your measurements. Cut the appropriate shapes from your felt.

Place stitch markers in the centre of Row 1 on both Panels and the centre of Rows 1 and 50 on the Base.

Join Gold through the marked st on the Back Panel and one of the marked sts on the Base.

Round 1 (RS) (Working through the sts on the Base and the Back Panel) Ch1, dc in each st around the Base, working into the last half of sts of Round 1 on the Back Panel; once you reach the end of the Back Panel continue with the Front Panel working dc sts around; once you reach the end of the Front Panel you should finish with the last half of the Back Panel, join with a ss to the first dc. [160 dc]

Join Gold into the first st of Row 66 of the Front Panel and the last st of Row 66 on the Back Panel.

Row 1 Ch1, dc into each row end, ss to the Base. [66 dc]

Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat Row 1 on the opposite side of the Handbag.

Join Gold into any st at the top of the Handbag.

Using Gold, sew one handle to each Panel 20cm apart using the image as a guide. Sew the felt pieces together in the same way the Handbag has been joined. Secure the magnetic clasp onto the felt front and back.

Using Gold, sew the felt lining into the Handbag, working the seam along the top edge.

Line the bag with thick felt, add a magnetic fastening, then sew the leather handles on

The front and back panels are made in a sturdy double crochet worked throughout
