Cables add texture to your makes, with raised strands criss-crossing your fabric in interesting ways. With a bit of know-how, you can work these strands in a contrasting colour to the background, to really make your cables stand out.
COLOUR AND CABLE COMBOS Colour cables mix colourwork and cabling techniques to create an amazing effect that you can use on most cable patterns. We’ll show you how to work a simple two-strand cable with two colours: one for the background and another for the cable. When you’re more confident, you could use multiple colours to work a cable with multiple strands.
MULTI SKILLED CROCHET
To make colour cables, you need to be able to change colour between stitches, and work post and crossed post stitches. Each of these skills is fairly simple, but using them together takes a bit of practice – it’s worth it though! You’ll actually find that using a different colour for the cable makes it easier to identify and work into the cable stitches. We’ll show you everything you need to know – then you can use your new skills to make our boot cuffs on page 83.
