BOBBLE JUMPER

Mix up a star motif with bobbles and hook yourself a magic-kissed casual jumper. By Sara Huntington

TENSION

12 sts and 12 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) using a 6mm hook over half treble or size needed to achieve stated tension

14 sts and 13 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) using a 4.5mm hook over Sleeve cuff bobble pattern or size needed to achieve stated tension

For a full list, see page 92 This DK yarn whips up lickety-split for a light sweater make. Easily alter the sleeve lengths by adding or removing a bobble row.

NOTES

Jumper is made in separate pieces for Front, Back and Sleeves from the bottom up, and the central star motif is worked from the Chart on page 94. A 4.5mm hook is used for the Sleeve cuffs only. All Bobbles are worked on WS rows and will show through on the RS.

JUMPER

BACK

Using a 6mm hook, ch68 (74: 80: 86).

Row 1 (WS) Htr in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [67 (73: 79: 85) sts]

Row 2 (RS) Ch2 (counts as htr throughout), htr in each st to end, turn.

Row 3 (WS) Ch2, htr in next st, *MB-5, htr in next 2 sts; repeat from * to last 2 sts, htr in last 2 sts, turn. [21 (23: 25: 27) Bobbles]

Row 4 Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn. Repeat Rows 3 and 4 twice more.

[3 rows of Bobbles]

Repeat Row 4 until work measures 55 (57: 59: 61)cm, ending with a WS row.

SHAPE BACK NECK

Next row (RS) Ch2, 22 (25: 28: 31) htr, turn leaving rem sts unworked.

Next row Ch2, htr in each st to end.

Fasten off.

Next row Skip the next 21 sts, rejoin yarn with RS facing to next st, ch2, htr in each st to end, turn. [23 (26: 29: 32) sts]

Next row Ch2, 22 (25: 28: 31) htr to end.

Fasten off.

FRONT

Work as for Back until work measures 26 (28: 28: 30)cm, ending on a RS row. STAR MOTIF

Star Motif is worked over next 25 rows and 19 sts shown in the Chart on page 94. Alternativ­ely, if you don’t want to make the Star Motif, instead work 25 rows in htr sts.

Next row (WS) Work the next 24 (27: 30: 33) sts and then work the Star pattern over the next 19 sts, continuing with htr and placing MB-7 as shown in the Chart, then working remaining sts in row in establishe­d pattern.

When the Star Motif is complete, continue in pattern as set until work measures 52 (54: 56: 58)cm, or the same total number of rows as the Back minus 6, ending on a RS row.

SHAPE FRONT NECK

Row 1 (RS) Ch2, htr in next 27 (30: 33: 36) sts, turn. [28 (31: 34: 37) sts]

Row 2 Ch2, htr2tog twice, htr in rem sts to end, turn. [26 (29: 32: 35) sts]

Row 3 Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn.

Rows 4-5 Repeat Rows 2 and 3.

[24 (27: 30: 33) sts]

Row 6 Ch2, htr2tog, htr in rem sts to end. [23 (26: 29: 32) sts]

Fasten off.

Skip the next 11 unworked sts at the base of the neck and rejoin yarn in the 12th st with RS facing.

Row 1 (RS) Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn. [28 (31: 34: 37) sts]

Row 2 Ch2, work in pattern to last 4 sts at neck edge, htr2tog twice, turn. [26 (29: 32: 35) sts]

Row 3 Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn.

Rows 4-5 Repeat Rows 2 and 3.

[24 (27: 30: 33) sts]

Row 6 Ch2, work in pattern to last 2 sts, htr2tog. [23 (26: 29: 32) sts]

Fasten off.

SLEEVES MAKE 2

Using a 4.5mm hook, ch33 (33: 36: 39).

Row 1 (WS) Htr in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [32 (32: 35: 38) sts]

Row 2 (RS) Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn.

Row 3 (WS) Ch2, htr in next st, *MB-5, htr in next 2 sts; repeat from * to end, turn.

[10 (10: 11: 12) Bobbles]

Row 4 Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn.

Rows 5-14 Repeat Rows 3-4, 5 more times. [6 rows of Bobbles]

INCREASE ROWS

Change to a 6mm hook.

SIZES 8 10 AND 16 18

Row 15 Ch2, htr in next 1 (0) sts, *htr in next 2 (1) sts, 2htr in next st; repeat from * to end, turn. [42 (52) sts]

SIZES 12 14 AND 20 22

Row 15 Ch2, 2htr in next st, *htr in next st, 2htr in next st; repeat from * to end, turn.

ALL SIZES

Row 16 Ch2, htr in next 1 (3: 1: 0) sts, *htr in next 4 (4: 5: 6) sts, 2htr in next st; repeat from * to last 0 (3: 2: 0) sts, htr in each st to end, turn. [50 (55: 60: 65) sts]

Row 17 Ch2, htr in each st to end, turn. Repeat Row 17 until work measures 53cm. Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

Sew Front and Back tog at shoulder seam.

NECKBAND

Using a 6mm hook, work in rounds.

Round 1 (RS) Rejoin yarn with RS facing to the first st along the back neck and dc along the 11 back neck sts, 3dc in shoulder seam, 10dc down front neck, dc along 21 sts at front neck, 9dc along opposite front neck to shoulder seam, 3dc to start of round, ss to first dc, turn. [57 sts]

Round 2 (WS) Ch2, htr in next st, MB-5 in next st, *htr in next 2 sts, MB-5 in next st; repeat from * to end, ss to top of beg ch-2, turn. [19 bobbles]

Round 3 (RS) Ch2, htr in each st around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Mark the centre top of the Sleeve, align with the shoulder seam, and sew to the Front and Back.

Repeat with second Sleeve. Sew Sleeve and side seams and weave in all ends.
