■ Caron Simply Soft Aran (100% acrylic 170g/288m), 4 balls of Yarn A Dark Country Blue (9711), 2 balls of Yarn B Pagoda (0014), 1 ball of each: Yarn C Blue Mint (9608), Yarn D Sage (9705)

■ A 6mm (US J/10) hook

For a full list, see page 92 Esme Crick’s throw is a fascinatin­g mix of circles and squares that create a dazzling feast for the eyes. Made in contrastin­g blues and greens, square motifs with a central circle are placed together in rows. The effect is quite stunning.

NOTES

The Blanket is made up of 60 Lunar Motifs, with 8 different colour sequences.

Motif 1 (make 6) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-2, Yarn D for Round 3, Yarn A for Rounds 4-5.

Motif 2 (make 6) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-4, Yarn D for Round 5.

Motif 3 (make 12) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-4, Yarn A for the 1st half of Round 5 and Yarn D for the 2nd half of Round 5.

Motif 4 (make 12) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-4, Yarn A for the 1st half of Round 5 and Yarn C for the 2nd half of Round 5.

Motif 5 (make 6) Use Yarn C for Rounds 1-2, Yarn B for Rounds 3-4, Yarn C for Round 5.

Motif 6 (make 6) Use Yarn B for Rounds 1-4, Yarn C for Round 5.

Motif 7 (make 6) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-2, Yarn C for Round 3, Yarn A for Rounds 4-5.

Motif 8 (make 6) Use Yarn A for Rounds 1-4, Yarn C for Round 5.

LUNAR MOTIF MAKE 60

Ch4, ss into first ch to join.

Round 1 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 11 tr into ring, ss into top of ch3 to join. [12 tr]

Round 2 Ch3, tr in st at base of ch, 2tr in each st around, ss to ch3 to join. [24 tr]

Round 3 Ch3, tr in same st as ch3, tr in next st, (2tr in next st, tr in next st) 11 times, ss to beg ch-3. [36 tr]

Round 4 Ch3, tr in same st as ch-3, tr in next 2 sts, (2tr in next st, tr in next 2 sts) 11 times, ss to beg ch-3. [48 tr]

Round 5 Ch1, dc in first st, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, (2etr, ch3, 2etr) in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next st; repeat from * 3 times more, change colour after the second repeat if required (see notes), ss to top of beg dc.

Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

Block the Motifs before joining.

Join the Motifs, using the image below as a guide. Using Yarn A, place Motifs WS together and dc the motifs together so the seam is visible on the RS.

BORDER

Join Yarn A into any st.

Round 1 Ch3, tr in each st around, with (2tr, ch3, 2tr) in each corner.

Round 2 As Round 1.

POMPOMS

Using Yarn B, make 14 pompoms on a 65mm pompom maker. Attach at regular spaces along the short edges of throw.
