How do I work into a slipknot loop?

Here’s how to work stitches into your slipknot loop…

-

Once you’ve made a slipknot, you’ll be able to start working in the round very quickly.

With your slipknot loop made, you can wrap the working yarn around your left hand as usual, ready to work the first round.

Next, work one chain, but don’t tighten up the slipknot. Now you need to make your turning chain for the stitch you intend to work on the first round – we’re going to practise with double crochet, so go ahead and make one chain.

Now you can work your stitches of the first round into the slipknot loop. We’re going to make double crochet stitches. To do this, insert the hook into the slipknot loop – you want to insert the hook under just the

top strand of yarn, so keep the other two strands of the slipknot loop below the hook. Work yrh and pull up a loop.

Yrh again and pull through both loops to finish your double crochet stitch.

Now you can go ahead and make more double crochet stitches, inserting the hook into the same slipknot space each time. We’re going to work 6 dc. You’ll probably find that as you work, the slipknot loosens up – this is perfectly normal and if you need to tighten it up a little, just gently pull on the tail end. Once you’ve worked all the stitches of the first round, you can pull the tail end of the slipknot to tighten the loop completely.

into the top of the first stitch of the round. Insert the hook under the top two loops of the first dc of the round, like this.

Yrh and pull the yarn back through this first stitch, like this.

Pull the new loop back through the loop already on the hook. This completes the slip stitch which joins the round into a circle and finishes the first round. You can continue with the next round, as desired.

The only drawback with this quick and easy method is that the slipknot has a tendency to come loose. To solve this, you can just pull the tail end to tighten the loop again and make sure you weave in the tail end of yarn securely at the back of the fabric.
