Waistcoats are one of the hottest looks for 2021 so you might be thinking of quietly trying out the trend. Why not make a noise instead with this statement oor-sweeping version – be brave!

NOTES

Waistcoat is made from Motifs, which are sewn together afterwards according to the Diagram on page 30.

Shoulder and side seams are joined leaving a gap for the armholes, and a dc edging is added to armhole and lower hem edges. A row of dc and a dc rib is worked around the entire front edge.

Using suggested yarn, ch4, ss to first ch form a ring.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 15tr in ring, ss to top of beg ch-3, turn. [16 tr] Fasten off.

Join suggested yarn in any tr.

Round 2 (WS) Ch5 (counts as tr and ch2), (tr, ch2) in each tr around, ss to top of beg ch-3, turn. [16 tr, 16 ch-2 sps] Fasten off.

Join suggested yarn in any ch-2 sp. Round 3 Ch3, (2tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1) in same ch-2 sp, (3htr, ch1) in next 3 ch-2 sps, *(3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch1)

in next ch-2 sp, (3htr, ch1) in next 3 ch-2 sps; rep from * twice more, ss to top of beg ch-3, turn. [4 corner groups of (3tr, ch2, 3tr), 12 3-htr groups, 16 ch-1 sps]

Fasten off.

Join Yarn B in any corner ch-2 sp.

Round 4 Ch1 (does not count as st),*(dc, ch2, dc, ch3) in corner ch-2 sp, (dc, ch3) in each ch-1 sp to next corner ch-2 sp; rep from * three more times, ss to first dc, turn.

Fasten off.

SIZE SMALL ONLY

Join Yarn A in any corner ch-2 sp.

Ch2 (counts as htr), (htr, ch2, 2htr, ch1) in same ch-2 sp, (2htr, ch1) in each ch-3 sp to next corner ch-2 sp, *(2htr, ch2, 2htr, ch1) in ch-2 sp, (2htr, ch1) in each ch-3 sp to next corner ch-2 sp; rep from * twice more, ss to top of beg ch-2, turn. [28 2-htr groups, 4 ch-2 sps, 24 ch-1 sps]

Round 5 Fasten off.

SIZES MEDIUM, LARGE AND X LARGE ONLY

Join Yarn A in any ch-2-sp.

Round 5 Ch3, (tr, ch2, 2tr, ch1) in same corner ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch1) in each ch-1 sp to next corner ch-2 sp, *(2tr, ch2, 2tr, ch1) in corner ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch1) in each ch-1 sp to next corner; rep from * twice more, ss to top of beg ch-3, turn.

SIZES LARGE AND X LARGE ONLY

Round 6 Ch1, dc in each st and ch-1 sp and (dc, ch2, dc) in each corner ch-2 sp around, ss to first dc, turn. [88 dc, 4 ch-2 sps]

TO MAKE UP

Join Motifs for Fronts and Back as shown on Diagram on page 30 using a neat whip stitch

and Yarn A.

Join Fronts to Back at shoulders.

ARMHOLE EDGING

Join side seams leaving a 20 (22: 24: 26)cm gap for armhole.

With RS facing, join Yarn A at underarm seam.

Row 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each st and ch-sp around armhole, ss to first dc, turn.

Row 2 (WS) Ch1, dc in each st around, ss to first

dc. Fasten off.

HEM EDGING

With RS facing, join Yarn A to bottom of Left Front.

Row 1 (RS) Ch1, dc in each st and ch-sp around, ss to first dc, turn.

Row 2 (WS) Ch1, dc in each st around. Fasten off.

FRONT EDGING AND RIB

With RS facing, join Yarn A to bottom of Right Front.

Row 1 (RS) Ch1, dc in each st and ch-sp around entire front edge of garment ending at bottom of Left Front, turn.

Work in Rib as folls. You may need to use a smaller hook to keep the Rib from ruffling:

Row 1 (WS) Ch9, dc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, ss in next dc on main body. [8 dc]

Row 2 Ss in next st on main body, turn, dc in bl of each dc to end, turn.

Row 3 Ch1, dc in bl of each st across, ss in next st of main body.

Rep Rows 2-3 around entire front edge. Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.
