■ King Cole Forest Aran (35% wool, 25% viscose, 20% acrylic, 20% polyamide, 100g/ 300m), 1 ball of each: Balvain Woods (1915), Kielder Forest (1916), Grizedale Forest (1918), Avondale Forest (1920), Wyre Forest (1923) ■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

■ Toy stuffing

■ 3 wooden stars per decoration, 1cm (available from www.bit.ly/ WoodenXmas­Stars)

Tension is not critical for this project, but it may affect the yarn quantities required

MEASUREMEN­TS

Tree measures approx 10cm (4in) tall

NOTES

Each Tree uses approx 5g of yarn.

Trees are worked from the top down in rows.

TREE

Using any colour, ch6 and ss in last ch from hook to form a loop.

Row 1 (WS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 3dc in loop, turn. [3 sts]

Row 2 (RS) Ch1, dc in bl of each st across, turn. Work in bl only throughout.

Row 3 Ch1, dc in first st, 2dc in next st, dc in final st, turn. [4 sts]

Row 4 As Row 2.

Row 5 Ch1, dc in first st, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final st, turn. [6 sts]

Row 6 As Row 2.

Row 7 Ch1, dc in first 2 sts, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final 2 sts, turn. [8 sts]

Row 8 As Row 2.

Row 9 Ch1, dc in first 3 sts, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final 3 sts, turn. [10 sts]

Row 10 As Row 2.

Row 11 Ch1, dc in first 4 sts, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final 4 sts, turn. [12 sts]

Row 12 As Row 2.

Row 13 Ch1, dc in first 5 sts, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final 5 sts, turn. [14 sts]

Row 14 As Row 2.

Row 15 Ch1, dc in first 6 sts, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in final 6 sts, turn. [16 sts]

Row 16 As Row 2.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
