If you prefer working in rounds to making motifs, this small cushion by Fran Morgan might be just the project for you

■ King Cole Big Value DK (100% acrylic, 50g/145m), 2 balls of each: Cream (4021), Violet (4038)

■ A 4mm (US G/6) hook

■ Cushion pad, 40x25cm

TENSION

19 sts and 16 rows measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over double crochet using a 4mm hook, or size needed to obtain correct tension

MEASUREMEN­TS

Cushion measures 40x25cm (15¾x9¾in)

NOTES

Cushion is worked in rounds throughout. Change colour on the final yrh of st before colour change is indicated. Carry the unused colour across the top of the sts enclosing the strand as you work.

SMALL CUSHION

Using Cream, ch77.

Round 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, (change to Violet, dc in next 4 ch, change to Cream, dc in next 4 ch) 9 times, turn to work down opposite side of foundation ch, (change to Violet, dc in next 4 ch, change to Cream, dc in next 4 ch) 9 times, change to Violet, dc in final 4 ch, change to Cream, ss to beg dc. Round 2 Ch1, dc in first 4 sts, (change to Violet, dc in next 4 sts, change to Cream, dc in next 4 sts) rep around to end, change to Cream, ss to

beg dc.

Rounds 3-4 As Round 2, do not change to Cream at end of Round 4.

Round 5 Ch1, dc in first 4 sts, (change to Cream, dc in next 4 sts, change to Violet, dc in next 4 sts) rep around to end, change to Violet, ss to beg dc. Rounds 6-8 As Round 5, do not change to Violet at end of Round 8.

Cont in pattern, repeating Round 2 four times, then Round 5 four times until Cushion measures 25cm tall.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO FINISH

Insert Cushion pad and use Cream to sew the opening closed.
