■ Any DK yarn in pink, grey, green

and white

■ A 4mm (US G/6 )hook

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook MEASUREMENTS

Square measures approx 12x12cm (4¾x4¾in) NOTES

Square is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. The Strawberry is made separately and sewn to the Square at the end. BABY STRAWBERRY SQUARE

Using a 4mm hook and grey, ch4 and ss in last ch from hook to form a loop. Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 2tr in loop, ch2, (3tr in loop, ch2) 3 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 2 (RS) Ss to ch-2 sp, ch5 (counts as tr, ch2 throughout), 3tr in same sp, ch1, *(3tr, ch2, 3tr) in ch-2 sp, ch1; rep from * twice more, 2tr in same sp as beg ch-5, ss to third ch of beg ch-5, ss into ch-2 sp. [8 3-tr groups, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps]

Round 3 Ch5, (3tr, ch1) in same sp, *(3tr, ch1) in ch-1 sp, (3tr, ch2, 3tr) in ch-2 sp; rep from * around, 2tr in same sp as beg ch-5, ss to third ch of beg ch-5, ss into ch-2 sp. [12 3-tr groups, 4 ch-2 sps, 8 ch-1 sps]

Round 4 Ch5, (3tr, ch1) in same sp, *(3tr, ch1) in each ch-1 sp across, (3tr, ch2, 3tr) in ch-2 sp; rep from * around, 2tr in same sp as beg ch-5, ss to third ch of beg ch-5, ss into ch-2 sp. [16 3-tr groups, 4 ch-2 sps, 12 ch-1 sps] Fasten off.

Join pink in any ch-2 sp.

Round 5 Ch1, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each st and ch-1 sp to next corner; rep from * around, ss to beg dc. Fasten off. STRAWBERRY

Using a 3.5mm hook and pink, ch2.

Row 1 (RS) 3dc in second ch from hook, turn. [3 sts]

Row 2 (WS) Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in next st, 2dc in final st, turn. [5 sts]

Row 3 Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in each st to final st, 2dc in final st, turn. [7 sts]

Rows 4-5 Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in each st to end, turn. [9 sts]

Row 6 Ch1, dc in each st across,

turn. Row 7 Ch1, skip first st, dc in each st to final 2 sts, dc2tog, turn. [7 sts] Row 8 As Row 7. [5 sts]

Row 9 Ch1, dc in each st across,

turn. Fasten off.

LEAVES

Using a 3.5mm hook and green, ch5.

Row 1 Dc in second ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, *ch5, dc in second ch from hook and next 3 ch; rep from * twice more, ss in base of beg ch-5.

Row 2 Dc around leaves, between the second and third leaf to shape, ch4, ss in second ch from hook and each ch to end. Fasten off.

Sew to the top of the Strawberry. TO FINISH

Sew the Strawberry to the Square Using white, embroider the pips on the Strawberry.
