5 minutes with... sarah dennis
This month we have a quick chat with designer Sarah Dennis to see what makes her tick.
Favourite knitting technique?
Double sided knitting with two colours – it produces flat fabric with a reversible design in stocking stitch on both sides.
Metal or wooden needles?
Metal needles, preferably long ones as I often knit with one tucked under my arm.
Desert island yarn?
I don’t know! As long as I had some yarn to knit with on my desert island I would be happy.
Biggest knitting ambition?
To complete a double-sided 4ply throw that I have in my mind.
Must-have knitting gadget?
Probably my row counters, but for pattern designing I couldn’t be without my calculator!
Tips for intarsia?
Don't be daunted, just take one row at a time. Once the images start to appear it's very exciting. It can take time but it's worth it.
Worst knitting habit?
Knitting in bed! I know it’s not good for my posture or my sanity, but I often do it when deadlines loom and I can’t sleep! Sarah has designed some stunning patterns this issue. Turn to page 17 for her heart motif trio and hone your intarsia skills, and on page 69 have a go at some cabled hanging hearts. We're feeling the love!
