Cast on this cropped top by Rowan and discover just how easy (and speedy) openwork lace really is!

Whatever you do, add this great number to your knit list, even if it’s the last thing you knit all summer. Designed in Rowan Mako Cotton it’s knitted with a fascinatin­g yarn made with 37% Lyocell. This unusual man-made fibre is derived from plant-based material and has brilliant moisture absorbency properties. The pattern stitch is a large openwork one which knits up speedily and looks amazing. The short sleeves, and cropped shape means you’ll be finished in no time – don’t delay, cast on today! Note Stitches should only be counted after the 2nd and 4th rows.

BACK

Cast on 74 (76: 84: 88: 94: 98) sts using

5mm needles.

Work in K1, P1 rib for 4cm, ending with a WS row, dec (-: -: -: inc: inc) 1 st at each end of last row.

[72 (76: 84: 88: 96: 100) sts]

Change to 5 mm needles.

Row 1 (RS) K2, *yo, K4; rep from * to last 2 sts, yo, K2.

Row 2 P2tog *(K1, P1) into the yo of the previous row, (p2tog) twice; rep from * to last 3 sts, (K1, P1) into the yo, p2tog. Row 3 K4 *yo, K4; rep from * to end. Row 4 P2, p2tog *(K1, P1) into the yo of previous row, (p2tog) twice; rep from * to last 5 sts, (K1, P1) into the yo, p2tog, P2. Rep these 4 rows until back meas 20.5 (23.5: 26: 27.5: 30: 33)cm, ending with a WS row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. [64 (68: 76: 80: 88: 100) sts]

Dec 1 st at each end of foll 2 alt rows. [60 (64: 72: 76: 84: 96) sts] **

Cont in patt until armhole meas 20 (21: 21: 22: 22: 23)cm, ending with a WS row. Cast off 6 (7: 9: 10: 12: 15) sts at beg of 4 foll rows.

Leave rem 36 sts on a holder.

FRONT

Work as for Back to **.

Cont in patt until armhole meas 12 (13: 13: 14: 14: 15)cm ending with a WS row. Next row (RS) K26 (28: 32: 34: 38: 44), turn, leave rem sts on a holder.

Dec 1 st at neck edge on every row to 12 (14: 18: 20: 24: 30) sts.

Cont until Front matches Back to start of shoulder shaping.

Cast off 6 (7: 9: 10: 12: 15) sts at beg of next and foll alt row.

Fasten off.

Slip next 8 sts onto a holder, work other side to match, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES

Cast on 64 (64: 68: 68: 76: 76) sts using

5mm needles.

Work in K1, P1 rib for 2cm, ending with a WS row.

Change to 5 mm needles. Working in pattern as set for Back, taking inc sts into pattern.

Inc 1 st at each end of 9th row and foll 10th row. [68 (68: 72: 72: 80: 80) sts] Cont in patt until sleeve meas 15 (15: 15: 16: 16: 16)cm, ending with a WS row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. [60 (60: 64: 64: 72: 72) sts]
