Simply Knitting

Hello…

…and a Happy New KnittingYear to everyone! (Yes, really!)

-

I’ve worked on craft magazines for over two decades, but I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to how early we celebrate the year’s big holidays and events – from Christmas to Valentine’s Day to Easter. It still comes as a bit of a surprise when we’re writing about NewYear knits and resolutions in November, but if we didn’t, all those great opportunities to knit for friends and family at favourite gift-giving times of the year would be missed, and that simply wouldn’t do. So here I am, talking about January and, if the truth be told, planning for next summer and beyond…!

Apart from our Christmas raccoon bag (and our polar bear’s scarf!), most of this issue’s projects are great all-year-round makes, like the brilliant fox toy and the gorgeous vintage top by Monica Russel. I’m already looking forward to adding some of them to my knit list for 2019, and we’ve been talking about NewYear knitting resolutions in the office (read more on p97). Between us, we’d like to expand our skills, whether tackling a challenging lace pattern, experimenting with finer yarns, or trying a new technique like steeking. It’s about time we stepped out of our very warm and cosy comfort zone! How about you? What NewYear knitting resolutions do you think you’ll be making in 2019? Head over to our Facebook page or jot us a note over email about your year ahead (details below) – we always love hearing all about your knitting worlds.

Here’s to a fabulous, knit-tastic 2019!
