MAKING UP

OTTER

-

Note The cast-off sts of the Body are the neckline.

1 Sew the side edges of Body together (this seam runs down the centre back of the Body) and gather the cast-on sts together at the bottom. Stuff the Body through the neck opening.

2 Sew the cast-on edge of the Snout to the cast-off edge of the Head. Insert the toy safety eyes on the Head (see photos as a

guide). If adding whiskers, cut lengths of nylon thread and knot each length onto the Snout on the WS, poke the ends of the thread through the Snout so that they are on the RS and trim to neaten. 3 Sew the side edges of the Snout and Head together, stuffing as you sew (this seam runs down the centre underside), and gather the cast-on sts together at the back of the Head to finish.

4 Sew the black Nose onto the top of the Snout (the cast-on edge of the Nose is at the top).

5 Sew the side edges of each Ear onto the side of the Head with the WS facing the front.

6 Sew the underside of the Head onto the neckline of the Body. 7 For each Arm, sew the side edges together (this seam runs down the underside of the Arm), add stuffing, but only lightly stuff the tops of the Arm and sew the cast-on edge of each Arm onto the top side of the Body.

8 For each Foot, sew the side edges together (this seam runs down the side of the Foot), add stuffing and sew the cast-on edge onto the bottom front of the Body.

9 Sew the side edges of the Tail together (this seam runs down the side of the Tail), add stuffing and sew the cast-on edge onto the bottom back of the Body.

10 To add a hem to the sweater, using Yarn F/G, embroider in chain stitch around the Body over the first sweater row, and rep with the Arms for cuffs.

FISH AND FISHING ROD

1 For the Body, sew the side edges together (this seam runs down the underside of the Fish). Add stuffing and oversew the cast-on edge closed at the end of the Tail.

2 Using Yarn E, sew a long stitch over the centre end of the Tail, pulling the yarn taut to make indentations to define the Tail fins. Tie the yarn around the base of the Tail, knot firmly and bury the ends of the yarn inside the Fish.

3 Using Yarn D, embroider a French knot for an eye on each side of the Fish.

4 Sew the side edge of each fin onto the side of the Fish’s Body. 5 You can either sew the Fish onto the Otter’s hands, or make a fishing rod. For the rod, cut a length of Yarn C and sew one end onto the mouth of the Fish. Tie the other end of the white yarn around one end of a 12cm length of a bamboo skewer, and glue the yarn in position. Sew the hands of the Otter together around the other end of the rod.
