Simply Knitting

THE STRAIGHT TOP

-

The straight top works in a similar way to The Pointed Top (above), but you stop earlier to give a blunt end to the mitten and the decreases are worked 1 st in from each marker. 1 First decrease round *K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker, K2tog… 2 …K1; rep from * once more [4 sts dec’d]. Then work 1 row/round straight. Repeat the last 2 rows/rounds until the top of the mitten is a little wider than your middle three fingers, making sure that you have an equal number of sts for the front and palm. Place the front sts on one needle, and the palm sts on another needle, making sure that both needles are pointing in the same direction.

3 Break your yarn leaving a long tail, thread onto a tapestry needle and graft the two sets of stitches together using Kitchener stitch.
