DECORATIVE HOLES

The decoration on front is formed by making vertical or horizontal ladders or holes. Using photograph as a guide, place holes at random over lower left front hem and upper right shoulder areas of Front. Make holes as folls: For tiny holes Work (K2tog, yfwd) over 2 sts to create the tiny hole. For horizontal holes Cast off 4 to 6 sts on one row. On foll row, cast on the same number of sts over these cast-off sts.

For vertical ladders Work M1 between 2 sts at the point the ladder is to appear. Mark this st with a coloured thread and note that this st will NOT count as a st in any foll st counts. Work 10 to 14 rows, then drop the marked st and unravel it down to the M1 point. Making decorative holes as desired (see above) and noting that no further reference will be made to decorative holes, work as given for Back until 6 (6: 8: 8: 10) rows less have been worked than on Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE FRONT NECK

Next row (RS) K43 (49: 55: 61: 67) and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder. Work each side of neck separately. Dec 1 st at neck edge of next 5 (5: 6: 6: 6) rows, then on foll 0 (0: 0:

0: 1) alt row. [38 (44: 49: 55: 60) sts]

Work 0 (0: 1: 1: 1) row, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE SHOULDER

Cast off 3 (4: 4: 5: 6) sts at beg of next and foll 3 (6: 1: 4: 7) alt rows, then 4 (5: 5: 6: 0) sts at beg of foll 4 (1: 6: 3: -) alt rows and at same time dec 1 st at neck edge of next and foll 5 alt rows.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 4 (5: 5: 6: 6) sts.

With RS facing, slip centre 18 sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn and knit to end.

Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.
