DIAMOND SOCKS
Notes These Socks are constructed as top-down Socks with a Heel Flap and Gusset. The Heel is knitted in Eye of Partridge stitch, which creates a durable, cushioned Heel. This pattern is written for four sizes and the length of the Sock is easily adjusted for any foot.
• These Socks are knitted on 2.5mm needles, not 3.25mm as stated on the ball band. This will produce a different tension but will ensure a firmer, more hard-wearing fabric for your Socks. The ideal tension for these Socks is 30 stitches to 10cm, so use whatever size needles are required to reach that tension and do check that your knitted fabric is firm but not stiff.
• It is often easier to cast on using DPNs before changing to a short circular needle. If you want to use magic loop you will be able to cast on with the larger circular needle if you prefer to do so, but remember not to pull your cast-on stitches too tight. If you use DPNs, you might find it easiest to cast on and work 2 rows before dividing the stitches across the needles.
• Using eye of partridge stitch at the toe creates compressed rounds and therefore a shorter toe, so these extra rounds are required – repeat the patt straight if you feel you need to, but do be sure to keep the pattern correct across the toes as it may be different from what’s written. You might feel that it’s easier to work a longer foot section instead.

SOCKS
Cast on 60 (64: 68: 72) sts using 3mm needles and Yarn B. Do not join.
CUFF
Row 1 *K2, P2; rep from * to end, turn. Row 2 *K2, P2; rep from * to end, turn. These 2 rows set rib.
Change to 2.5mm needles and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist sts. PM to mark beg of round. You will sew up the small gap where you worked the first 2 rows later.
Cont in rib a further 14 rounds or desired length of cuff.
LEG
Break off Yarn B. Join in Yarn A.
Work in Flower Border patt from written instructions or Chart, repeating the 30 (32: 34: 36) sts as given for your size twice around. Cont in patt until Leg meas 15 (15: 17: 17)cm from cast-on edge or desired length, and remembering which round of patt you finish on for the Heel Flap.
HEEL FLAP
Worked over next 30 (32: 34: 36) sts, turn at end of each row, leaving rem sts on holder or spare needle.
Break off Yarn A. Join in Yarn B.
Row 1 (RS) K30 (32: 34: 36), turn.
Row 2 (WS) P30 (32: 34: 36), turn.
Row 3 *Sl1, K1; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 4 Sl1, purl to end, turn.
Row 5 Sl1, *sl1, K1; rep from * to last st, K1, turn.
Row 6 Sl1, purl to end, turn.
Rep Rows 3 to 6 until Heel Flap meas 5cm, ending after a RS row. If you want to make the Heel Flap longer, rep Rows 3 to 6 until you reach desired length, but remember that you will need to pick up more stitches to create the Gusset.
HEEL TURN
Row 1 (WS) Sl1, P16 (17: 18: 19), p2tog, P1, turn.
Row 2 (RS) Sl1, K5, ssk, K1, turn.
Row 3 Sl1, P6, p2tog, P1, turn.
Row 4 Sl1, K7, ssk, K1, turn.
Cont in this way, adding 1 st between slip st and dec on each row until all the Heel sts have been worked, and noting that you may not require the final K1/P1 on last 2 rows.
GUSSET
Next round With RS facing, knit across Heel sts, rejoin Yarn A to LH side of Heel Flap and pick up 1 st for every 2 rows down Heel Flap, PM, work instep sts in patt as set, PM, purl 1 st for every 2 rows up Heel Flap, knit across Heel sts, PM for new beg of round.
Dec round Knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, slm, work instep sts in patt as set to marker, slm, K1, ssk, knit to end.
Next round Knit to marker, slm, work instep sts in patt as set to marker, slm, knit to end.
Rep last 2 rounds until 60 (64: 68: 72) sts remain.
FOOT
Next round Knit to marker, slm, work instep sts in patt as set to marker, slm, knit to end.
Cont as set by last round until Foot meas 5cm less than desired length.
Don’t be afraid to try your Sock on before decreasing for the toes!
TOE
Break off Yarn A. Join in Yarn B.
Set up round Remove marker, knit to marker, this is new beg of round marker.
Round 1 *Sl1, K1; rep from * to marker, slm, knit to end.
Round 2 Knit.
Round 3 *K1, Sl1; rep from * to marker, slm, knit to end. Round 4 Knit.
SHAPE TOE
Round 1 K1, ssk, *K1, sl1; rep from * to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, K1, slm, K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before end, k2tog, K1. [4 sts dec’d] Round 2 Knit.
Rep Rounds 1 to 2 until 28 sts remain.
FINISHING
Divide sts evenly on 2 needles and graft together using Kitchener stitch (page 94). Using yarn tail, sew up small seam at Cuff where you cast on. Weave in all ends. Block carefully, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band.
