Stitch patterns

Garter stitch: knit all rows. Stockinett­e stitch: Right side rows: knit all sts. Wrong side rows: purl all sts. Colourwork pattern: work stockinett­e st following the chart and the written instructio­ns.

Back

Using the linen-coloured yarn, cast on 110 (122) 134 (146) 158 sts and work garter st for 11 rows. Then switch to stockinett­e st.

When the piece measures 18 (19) 20 (21,5) 23 cm, begin the colourwork stripes from row 1 of the chart: k1, work the 6 st pattern repeat 18 (20) 22 (24) 26 times, k1. Work rows 2–16. Work 14 rows of stockinett­e st with the linen-coloured yarn and then work rows 17–32 of the chart. Work 14 rows of stockinett­e st with the linen-coloured yarn and then work rows 1–16 of the chart. Work 2 rows of stockinett­e st with the linen-coloured yarn and begin decreases for the armholes. Work in stockinett­e st and on every 2nd row

When the armhole measures 17 (18) 19 (20,5) 22 cm, bind off the middle 40 (40) 40 (42) 42 sts for the

neckline. Work one side of the neckline at a time. On every 2nd row bind off 4x 5 (6) 7 (7) 7 sts and 1x 3 (3) 3 (4) 7 sts at the shoulder and at the same time bind off 1x 2 sts at the neckline edge after 2 rows.

Knit the other side of the neckline to match. Left front Using the linen-coloured yarn, cast on 56 (62) 68 (74) 80 sts and work garter st for 11 rows. Then switch to stockinett­e st.

When the armhole measures 9 (10) 11 (12,5) 14 cm, leave 15 (15) 15 (16) 16 sts from the front edge (= left end) on hold on e.g. a piece of yarn.

Bind off on every 2nd row 2x 2 sts and 4x 1 st at the neckline edge. When the armhole measures 17 (18) 19 (20,5) 22 cm, bind off at the shoulder on every 2nd row 4x 5 (6) 7 (7) 7 sts and 1x 3 (3) 3 (4) 7 sts. Right front Work as the mirror image of the left front but follow the colourwork pattern as is. Sleeves Using the linen-coloured yarn, cast on 54 (56) 56 (58) 58 sts and work garter st for 11 rows. Then switch to stockinett­e st.

When the piece measures 10 (13) 10 (14) 9 cm, increase 1 st at both ends. Repeat the increases every 3,5 (3) 2,5 (2) 2 cm 9 (10) 14 (16) 19 more times = 74 (78) 86 (92) 98 sts.

Note: When the piece measures 18 (19) 20 (21,5) 23 cm, begin the colourwork stripes from row 1 of the chart: k1, repeat the 6 st pattern as needed, k1. Work rows 2–16. Work 14 rows of stockinett­e st with the linen-coloured yarn and then work rows 17–32 of the chart. Work 14 rows of stockinett­e st with the linen-coloured yarn and then work rows 1–16 of the chart. Use the linen-coloured yarn for the rest of the sleeve.

When the piece measures 45 (46) 47 (48) 49 cm, on every 2nd row

bind off at both ends 1x 4 (4) 6 (6) 6 sts, 2 (3) 3 (3) 4x 2 sts, 9 (10) 11 (13) 13x 1 st, 1x 2 sts, and 1x 3 sts. Bind off the remaining sts.

Knit the other sleeve to match. Finishing Pin the pieces to measuremen­ts, mist on the wrong side and allow to dry.

Sew the shoulder seams.

Neckline edge: Using the linen-coloured yarn, pick up and knit the sts on hold as well as additional sts from between the sts, 5 sts per each 3 cm. Work 10 rows of garter st and securely bind off.

Buttonband (left front): Using the linen-coloured yarn, pick up and knit sts from the front edge of the left front piece, 5 sts per each 3 cm. Work 10 rows in garter st and bind off.

Now place markers for buttons on the edge. The topmost button will be 2 cm from the top edge, the lowest 2 cm from the bottom edge, and the other 4 in between, equally spaced. Buttonhole band (right front): Work as you did the buttonband but work buttonhole­s at the marked spots after 3 rows. Buttonhole: k2tog, cast on 2 sts, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped st over).

Sew the side seams and sleeve seams. Attach the sleeves. Attach the buttons. Design: Novita / Saara Toikka
