BONNET AND BOOTEES

Note The Bonnet is worked flat – the circular needle is only recommende­d due to the high number of stitches. The Bootees are worked flat from the cuff to the sole with a seam on the base and up the back.

BONNET

Cast on 134 (164) sts using 4mm needles.

WORK PATTERN

Row 1 (RS) Sl1, P2, knit to last 2 sts, P1, K1.

Row 2 (WS) Sl1, K1, purl to last 2 sts, K1, P1.

Row 3 Sl1, P1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, *(K2, K2tog) twice, K2; rep from * 11 (14) more times, K2tog, K1, K2tog, P1, K1. [106 (130) sts]

Row 4 As Row 2.

Row 5 Sl1, P1, *k2tog, K2; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2tog, P1, K1. [80 (98) sts]

Row 6 As Row 2.

Row 7 Sl1, P1, *w2knot, P2; rep from * to last 6 sts, w2knot, P1, K1. Place a locking stitch marker at the centre of Row 7.

Row 8 Sl1, K1, *p1tbl, K2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1tbl, K1, P1. Row 9 Sl1, P1, k1tbl, P2, *w2knot, P2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k1tbl, P1, K1.

Row 10 As Row 8.

MAKING UP

Break off yarn and pull tail through rem sts. Pull tight and secure. Sew seam from back gather towards nape of neck for 3cm.

TIES (MAKE 2)

Cast on 3 sts using 3.25mm DPNs.

Row 1 *K3, do not turn, slide these 3 sts to other end of needle; rep from * until cord meas 22 (25)cm. Make sure to pull yarn tight across the back of i-cord each time you start a new row.

Cast off.

Sew ties to bottom front corners of hat very securely. Weave in all ends. Please note, the hat ties are optional.

BOOTEES (MAKE TWO)

Cast on 58 (68: 78) sts with 3.25mm needles.

WORK PATTERN

Row 1 Knit.

Rows 2, 4 and 6 Purl.

Row 3 K2, k2tog, *(K2, k2tog) twice, K2; rep from * 4 (5: 6) more times, k2tog, K2. [46 (54: 62) sts]

Row 5 *K2tog, K2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2tog. [34 (40: 46) sts] Row 7 W2knot, P2; rep from * to last 4 sts, w2knot.

Row 8 P1tbl, *K2; p1tbl; rep from * to end.

Row 9 K1tbl, *P2, w2knot; rep from * to last 3 sts, P2, k1tbl.

Row 10 As Row 8.

Rows 11 to 12 As Rows 7 to 8.

Row 13 K1tbl, *P2, k1tbl; rep from * to end.

Next row (Turning row) K, decreasing 5 (7: 9) sts evenly across row. [29 (33: 37) sts]

RIBBING

Row 1 *K1tbl, P1; rep from * to last st, k1tbl. Row 2 *P1tbl, K1; rep from * to last st, p1tbl. Rep Rows 1 to 2 another 3 times.

Next row Purl.

INSTEP SHAPING

Row 1 K18 (20: 22), turn.

Row 2 P7, turn.

Working on these centre 7 sts for instep only, work 10 (12: 14) rows in st st.

Break yarn and slide all sts onto one needle.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn, K11 (13: 15), pick up and knit 8 (10: 12) sts along side of instep, K7 instep sts, pick up and knit 8 (10: 12) sts along second side of instep, K11 (13: 15) sts. [45 (53: 61) sts] Work 5 (5: 7) rows in st st.

SHAPE SOLE

Row 1 K2tog, K18 (22: 26), k2tog, K1, k2tog, K18 (22: 26), k2tog. [41 (49: 57) sts]

Row 2 Knit.

Row 3 K2tog, K16 (20: 24), k2tog, K1, k2tog, K16 (20: 24), k2tog. [37 (45: 53) sts]

Row 4 K2tog, K14 (18: 22), k2tog, K1, k2tog, K14 (18: 22), k2tog. [33 (41: 49) sts]

MAKING UP

Join back and Sole seam on Bootee. Weave in all ends.
