We chat to Paula Steer from Lily Warne Wool...

Hi, tell us all about Lily Warne Wool...

Lily Warne Wool is a mother and son partnership and I like to call it a true farm-toyarn story. Our 100% pure Dartmoor wool is shorn by hand from our small pedigree flock of Greyface Dartmoor sheep, bred using only traditional shepherding methods to ensure the best quality of life and finest wool. The fleece is then spun locally before returning to our small family farm to be knitted into our woollen products. I’m passionate about my wool and heritage, and all the colours are named after Dartmoor landmarks.

What can we find at Lily Warne Wool?

I have an emporium of items available for sale, including gorgeous ready-made gifts, ranging from my iconic poppies (featured on BBC Countryfile) to our warm and unique pompom hats. Value for money has always been important so I feel that a range of well-priced gifts is paramount. I always like the vintage feel as Lily Warne, my great-grandmother, was born in 1891 and would have seen both WW1 and WW2, and I love to make reflecting these eras. We create for every season, be it small brooches from roses and daisies through to our robin designs. We also stock headbands and hats knitted in our Blue Face Leicester wool for the Baby range.

What were the highlights of 2019?

This year I introduced Knit Your Own kits that contain everything you need to make your headbands or hanging hearts. Autumn 2019 also bought our On the Farm workshops to be held on the last Friday of the month. I was also a guest speaker throughout the year, inspiring other ladies to take the plunge and fulfil their dreams. Lambing 2019 was my most successful to date – more gorgeous lambs to add to the increasing flock!
