GUIDE TO KNIT CLASSES
A YARN STORY
Recreate the experience of yarn store shopping with this great free “virtual personal shopper” service from Bath-based (and online) store A Yarn Story. Book a time and date through the website, then give as much info about your yarn needs as possible. If you’ve got a pattern in mind, let them know what it is, if you just need a top-up of yarn for a project in progress, give the existing yarn details, or if you want help choosing a design, just let them know what sort of thing you’re after! You’ll get 20 minutes of one-to-one service from one of the expert shop team via online meeting platform Zoom, giving you a chance to shop from the store while still keeping a safe social distance!

TRIBE YARNS
The gorgeous Tribe Yarns is o ering a similar service, with a 20-minute chat with owner Milli via Zoom, Skype or Facetime. Let her know your requirements at least 24 hours beforehand – your chosen project, preferred colours etc – and she’ll put together a personalised yarny smörgåsbord for you to browse during the session! Milli has been knitting for 37 years and knows her stock inside out, so is an expert with yarn substitutions and colour palettes. Sessions cost £15, which is fully redeemable against purchases.

THE ONLINE WOOL SHOW
Launched by the team behind Spring Into Wool and the Southern Wool Show, in the wake of their cancellations due to the lockdown, the Online Wool Show is a fabulous chance to enjoy all the fun of show shopping from your own home! Visit the “stalls” of more than 50 brands including Beaker Button, Coastal Colours, Pickle-Lily and Truly Hooked, view their wares and then order through the site. Or why not take in a free demonstration video, such as an introduction to crochet, Magic Loop knitting or needle felting? There are also a large number of free patterns to download, plus video introductions from many of the stallholders, live Zoom workshops and a video gallery where you can upload photos of purchases. You can even design and order your own yarn, choosing the base fibre and one, two or three colours for it to be dyed with. It’s the perfect lockdown show experience – there aren’t even any queues!
