Stitch markers Tension: 22 sts and 44 rows to 10 cm, over pattern using 4 mm needles, or the size required to give the correct tension.

Note: Where only one figure is given this applies to all sizes. Where the figure 0 appears, no sts, times or rows are worked for this size.

After casting off one stitch will remain on the right hand needle which is not included in the instructio­ns that follow.

Abbrevatio­ns: kfb = knit into front and back of stitch

m1 = make 1 stitch by picking up loop between sts and working into the back of it

s1p = slip 1 stitch purlwise

ybk = yarn to back

yfrt = yarn to front

m2 = make 2 sts by picking up loop between sts and working into the front and back of it

Back Using 4 mm needles and thumb method cast on 119 (131) sts.

1st row (RS). K1, * p1, k1, rep from * to end. 2nd row. P1, * k1, p1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows set rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 2 cm, ending with a WS row.

Next row (RS). * yfrt, s1p, ybk, p1, rep from * to last st, yfrt, s1p, ybk.

Next row. * purl tog next st and loop across st [yfrt and s1p of previous row], k1, rep from * to last st, purl tog next st and loop across st (yfrt and s1p of previous row). Last 2 rows set patt. Cont in patt until work measures 55 (53) cm, ending with a WS row. Shape raglan Keeping continuity of patt correct (throughout), proceed as follows: – Work 69 (73) rows dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row. 49 (57) sts. Cont without shaping until work measures 71 cm, ending with a ws row.

Cast off in patt.

Front Using 4 mm needles and thumb method cast on 119 (131) sts. Work in rib as set for Back until work measures 2 cm, ending with a WS row.

Next row (RS). * yfrt, s1p, ybk, p1, rep from * to last st, yfrt, s1p, ybk.

Next row. * purl tog next st and loop across st [yfrt and s1p of previous row], k1, rep from * to last st, purl tog next st and loop across st (yfrt and s1p of previous row). Last 2 rows set patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 4 cm, ending with a WS row. Place a stitch marker at each side of centre stitch. Next row. Patt1, patt3tog, patt to 1st marker, m2, k1, m2, patt to last 4 sts, sssk, patt1.

Work 11 rows in patt.

Rep last 12 rows 12 times more. Next row. Patt1, patt3tog, patt to 1st marker, m2, k1, m2, patt to last 4 sts, sssk, patt1.

Cont without shaping until work measures 48 cm, measured in

centre of work ending with a WS row. Shape front neck Note – Front neck shaping is worked by decreasing stitches at armhole edge. Next row. Patt 59 (65), turn, leave rem sts on a stitch holder. Work 1 row.

** Next row. Patt1, patt2tog, patt to end. 58 (64) sts. Work 1 row.

Next row. Patt1, patt2tog, patt to end. 57 (63) sts. Work 3 rows**. Work from ** to ** 10 (12) times more. 37 (39) sts.

Next row. Patt1, patt2tog, patt to end. 36 (38) sts. Work 1 row.

Next row. Patt1, patt2tog, patt to end. 35 (37) sts.

Cont without shaping until work measures 71 cm, ending with a WS row. Shape back neck Note – Back neck shaping is worked by decreasing stitches at neck edge.

Work 69 (73) rows dec 1 st at neck edge on next and every foll alt row. Cast off.

With RS facing, rejoin yarn to 60 (66) sts left on stitch holder, cast off 1 st, patt to end. 59 (65) sts. Work 1 row.

Cast off. Sleeve (both alike) Using 4 mm needles and thumb method cast on 63 (65) sts. Work in rib as set for Back until work measures 2 cm, ending with a WS row.

Work in patt as set for Back work 229 rows inc 1 st at each end of 13th and every foll 12th row, taking inc sts into patt. 101 (103) sts. Cont without shaping until work measures 60 cm, ending with a ws row. Cast off.

Finishing Sew Back neck edges of Front to Back raglan edges. Place stitch markers 48 (47.5) cm from cast on edge of Back and Front (23 (23.5) cm from shoulder) to denote position of sleeves, and set in sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams. Block out garment to the measuremen­ts given and place under damp cloths and leave until dry.
