Size: 38 x 30 cm Materials: Rico Creative Cotton aran. Content: 100% cotton. 50 g = 85 m.

5 balls col 70 mustard Needles: Sizes 3 and 4 mm Tension: 18 sts and 24 rows to 10 cm, over pattern on 4 mm needles, or the size required to give the correct tension.

Check your tension – if less stitches use thinner needles, if more use thicker needles.

Notes: After casting off one stitch will remain on the right hand needle which is not included in the instructio­ns that follow.

Abbrevatio­ns: yfwd = yarn forward yrn = yarn round needle

Using 3 mm needles and thumb method cast on 160 sts.

1st row (RS). Knit.

Last row sets g-st (garter stitch). Cont in g-st until work measures 3 cm, ending with as WS row. Shape handles Cast off 49 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 62 sts. Change to 4 mm needles and proceed as follows for the main part:

Pattern note – When working main pattern, only count sts after 2nd and 4th rows of pattern.

1st row (RS). K1, * k2, yfwd, yrn, k2, rep from * to last st, k1.

2nd row. K1, * p2tog, (k1, p1) into yfwd, yrn of previous row, p2tog, rep from * to last st, k1.

3rd row. K1, yfwd, k2, * k2, yfwd, yrn, k2, rep from * to last 3 sts, k2, yfwd, k1.

4th row. K1, p1, p2tog, * p2tog, (k1, p1) into yfwd, yrn of previous row, p2tog, rep from * to last 4 sts, p2tog, p1, k1.

Last 4 rows set patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 60 cm, ending with a WS row. Shape handles Change to 3 mm needles and proceed as follows: Next row. Cast on 49 sts, knit to end. 111 sts. Next row. Cast on 49 sts, knit to end. 160 sts.

Cont in g-st until work measures 3 cm from last cast on sts, ending with as WS row.

Cast off.

Borders (both alike) With RS facing, using 3 mm needles, pick up and knit 30 sts evenly along side edge.

Work in g-st until Border measures 3 cm, ending with a WS row. Cast off.

Finishing Fold bag in half and join ends of handles together at each side. Join side of Edging to handles. Block out bag to the measuremen­ts given and cover with damp cloths and leave until dry.
