5 (6) balls col 98 light brown Needles: Size 4 mm Tension: Using size 4 needles, in Pattern st: 24 sts and 34 rows = 10x10 cm. Using size 4 needles, in Stockinette st: 23 sts and 30 rows = 10x10 cm. Take time to check tension Measurements are taken after gently blocking swatch.
1x1 Semi-tubular Ribbing: 1st row: p1 * k1, p1 * repeat from * to *. 2nd row: * k1, bring yarn up and slip 1 st purlwise, bring yarn down * repeat from * to * and finish with k1 Repeat these 2 rows.
Stripe pattern: Work in Stockinette st: * 10 rows using black, 10 rows using white * work from * to * a total of 4 times and finish with 10 rows using black.
Note: Poncho is worked horizontally, in 2 pieces. Using brown cast on 118 (122) sts.
Work in Garter st.
When total length is 1 cm continue to work in Pattern st following chart A, always maintaining 7 sts at each edge in 1x1 Semi-tubular Ribbing.
When total length is 24 (26,5) cm,
using black continue to work in Stripe pattern.
Note: To prevent strands at side edge, be sure to always change
colour beginning from the 7 sts in 1x1 Semi-tubular Ribbing.
After finishing the Stripe pattern,
using brown continue to work in Pattern st following chart A. When total length is 77 (82) cm continue to work in Garter st across all sts.
When total length is 78 (83) cm bind
off (cast off) all sts.
Work a second piece in the same way.
Finishing
Match the 2 pieces, baste along outer edge and very gently block. Using Side seam technique join the 2 pieces to shape the shoulder and
sew, leaving unsewn 26 (28) cm for neck opening.
To shape the armhole sew side edges with a few stitches, 27 (28) cm from shoulder seam.
Very gently block the seams.
