Needles: Size 6 mm Tension: Pattern I: 6 mm needles:13 sts = 10 cm wide. 27 rows = 10 cm high.

Tip 1: The curved edge at the front is achieved by increasing either side of the 3 centre sts and decreasing at the sides.

Tip 2: When increasing either side of the 3 centre sts there may be 2 brioche sts (k st with yo) next to each other on some rows.

Tip 3: The sleeves are knitted on. The arrow on the schematic indicates the direction of knitting.

Tip 4: Sew the seams just half a stitch in from the edge.

Pattern I:

6 mm needles: half brioche rib:

Row 1, RS: 1 edge st, *sl1yo (sl1 p-wise and yo at the same time = brioche st), p1*, rep from * to *, ending with sl1yo, 1 edge st.

Row 2, WS: 1 edge st, *brp (purl the st tog with the yo), k1*, rep from * to *, ending with brp, 1 edge st. Slip the edge st at the beginning of each row, knit the edge st at the end of the row. Back Cast on 59 (65) 73 (79) sts with 6 mm needles. Purl 1 WS row, then work in pattern I. At a length of 42 (42) 42 (41) cm place a marker at each end of the row. Keep knitting straight. Leave the sts when back measures 62 (63) 64 (65) cm. Front Cast on 59 (65) 73 (79) sts with 6 mm needles. Purl 1 WS row, then work in pattern I, beginning with 1 edge st, p1, sl1yo and ending in reverse, at the same time mark the 3 centre sts (= 1 brioche st, p1, 1 brioche st). On the 7th row begin working inc either side of the centre,

at the same time dec 1 st at the side edges, so that the no. of sts remains the same = 1 edge st, k2tog or p2tog, knit to the 3 centre sts, inc 1 k-wise tbl or p-wise tbl, 3 sts pattern I, inc 1 k-wise tbl or p-wise tbl, knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog or p2tog, 1 edge st. Incorporate the new sts either side of the centre into pattern I (see tip 2). Rep inc and dec in this way on every 6th row. Neck At about 40 cm from the cast-on (measured in the middle of the piece) divide front after the 20th inc and dec. To do this cast off the centre st and then finish knitting the 2 sides separately. Pick up an edge st next to the cast-off st = 30 (33) 37 (40) sts. Do not work any more inc at neck edge, but dec 1 st at the side on every 6th row 10 (11) 13 (14) times (this creates the V-neck as the sts pull towards the armhole). When front measures 62 (63) 64 (65) cm leave the rem 20 (22) 24 (26) sts. Knit the left half similarly, reversing shaping. Using Kitchener st, join the sts left from front and back for the shoulders. Loosely cast off the 19 (21) 25 (27) middle sts of the back. Sleeves (knitted on) Pick up 53 (55) 57 (63) sts from armhole, back and front. Purl 1 WS row, then work in pattern I. For the side shaping dec 1 st at each end of every 14th row 8 (8) 7 (8) times = 37 (39) 43 (47) sts. When sleeve measures 48 cm purl 1 WS row, then cast off all sts loosely, k-wise. Finishing Close side and sleeve seams.
