Tip: The sleeves are knitted on. The arrow on the schematic indicates the direction of knitting. Pattern I: 7 mm needles: reverse stocking st = RS p, WS k. Slip the edge st at the beginning of each row, knit the edge st at the end of the row. Pattern II: 10 mm needles: garter st = RS and WS k. Work the edge sts in pattern II.

Pattern III: 6 mm + 7 mm needles: rib = k1, p1. Back Cast on 65 (71) 77 (81) sts with 7 mm needles. Knit in pattern I, work the centre st = 33rd (36th) 39th (41st) as k on the RS and p on the WS. At 11 cm from the cast-on continue with 10 mm needles and

allocate pattern as foll: 1 edge st, 30 (33) 36 (38) sts pattern II, p1, k1, p1, 30 (33) 36 (38) sts pattern II, 1 edge st. Continue in pattern as set, on the WS work the 3 middle sts as they face you. Armhole extension (drop shoulder): At 26 (25) 24 (22) cm from the cast-on (measured hanging) inc 1 st at each end of every 4th row 3 times and then at each end of every other row 3 times = 77 (83) 89 (93) sts.

Neck: When armhole reaches a length of 18 (19) 20 (22) cm cast off the middle 29 (31) 31 (31) sts, then leave the rem 24 (26) 29 (31) sts either side for the shoulders. Front Knit as for back. Neck When armhole reaches a length of 13 (14) 15 (17) cm cast off the middle 19 (21) 21 (21) sts, then at neck edge either side cast off 3 sts once and 1 st twice, on alt rows. Leave the 24 (26) 29 (31) sts either side for the shoulders at the same length as for back. Now graft the shoulder sts together using Kitchener stitch. Sleeves (knitted on) With 10 mm needles pick up 40 (42) 44 (48) sts from the armhole edge (back and front), leaving out about every 3rd edge st. Knit in pattern II. When sleeve measures 35 cm dec 7 sts evenly = 33 (35) 37 (41) sts. Knit 10 rows of pattern III with 6 mm needles, then continue in pattern I with 7 mm needles. After 9 rows cast off all sts loosely, k-wise. Finishing Close the remaining seams, leaving 11 cm open at the bottom of the side seams.

Neckband: With 7 mm circular needle pick up 74 (82) 82 (90) sts (front = 39 (43) 43 (47) sts, back = 35 (39) 39 (43) sts) and purl 1 rnd, work the centre front st and centre back st in k. Continue in pattern III, arranging the pattern, so that the centre front st and centre back st is worked in k. After 11 rnds, knit 3 more rnds with 6 mm needles, then cast off all sts loosely, in pattern. Now on the inside of the front and back sew the decorative seam in mattress stitch, always insert the needle into the st next to the centre k st. Continue this seam from the cast-on edge up to and including the neckband. Design: Langyarns
