Daniel Ball, Outreach and Engagement O cer Charity Army Flying Museum
Established The collection was started in 1946 at RAF Andover but later moved to Middle Wallop and first opened to the public in 1974.
What do you do? Our mission is to tell the story of army flying, and to entertain, inspire and engage a generation through that story. The museum in Hampshire has over 40 aircraft as well as uniforms, medals and equipment, and covers the five main branches of Army Aviation: Royal Engineers (18781912), The Royal Flying Corps (1912-1918), Air Observation Post Squadrons (1941-1957), the Glider Pilot Regiment (1942-1957) and the current Army Air Corps (1957 to date).
What can we do to help? We’re currently calling on knitters and crocheters to be inspired by stories of courage, bravery and comradeship and help us create a mass display of mini medals influenced by the Museum’s medal collection. The display of medals will be added to form an art installation around our aircraft in time for Remembrance in November. A copy of the suggested pattern can be downloaded at hwww.armyflying.com/outreach/magnificentmini-medals or you can request a copy from outreach@armyflying.com or use your own. The deadline for submissions is 1 November 2020, and medals can be dropped o to the museum if you live locally in Hampshire or sent to: Army Flying Museum, Middle Wallop, Stockbridge, Hants SO2O 8FB.
