What do you do?
As the UK’s largest charity care provider, we enable people to live later life well. Through 90 specialist care homes, thriving retirement living, 62 vibrant community groups and befriending, we inspire the best care and wellbeing at every stage of later life. With over 75 years’ experience we put people at the heart of everything we do in all our homes and schemes across Britain. All our donations and surplus we generate is invested into the services we provide for our 18,500 residents and members. We have over 7,000 dedicated colleagues, supported by over 4,000 generous volunteers.
What can we do to help? We’re appealing for any readers that are crafty to use their artistic flair to create more blankets. It can be decorated with ribbons, buttons, loops, zippers, pompoms or a pocket to put things in. The key is to keep it simple, as too much could be frightening or confusing for a resident.

Latest fundraising news The pandemic has been a very di cult time, in particular for residents living with dementia in care homes. Not always understanding why restrictions are in place, not having visits from their family and not understanding why sta are wearing face masks has had an impact on residents. We’re constantly trying to find ways in which we can bring happiness, comfort and safety to residents living with dementia. We have found that having a tactile, cosy and colourful blanket (knitted, crocheted or quilted) can bring comfort, interest, ease feelings of distress and stimulate the mind and senses during these di cult times.
