Tell us about Baa!...

Baa! opened its doors for the first time in February 2018. We’re situated in North East Scotland in the beautiful seaside town of Stonehaven. Back in 2018 our business was half yarn shop, half workshop venue. We ran weekly workshops in knitting, crochet and many other textile crafts as well as hosting knitting groups. Things changed a little in 2020, but with a fantastic, supportive customer base we enjoyed the challenge of adapting! We now run our knit groups via Zoom and have developed our website into a fantastic online shop. We are not just a shop – we are a community.

What can knitters find at your shop?

Baa! loves natural fibres! Our shelves are packed with wools, cottons and blends from Rowan, West Yorkshire Spinners, Scheepjes, Jamieson’s of Shetland, Baa ram ewe, Regia and more. We also have a fantastic selection of hand-dyed skeins from three local dyers, Hennypennymakes, Colliston Yarns and Cookston Crafts. One of our exciting, latest local additions is a collection of hand-painted, handspun yarns from Wish Ewe Were Here. We are stockists of ChiaoGoo and KnitPro needles and have lovely range of knitting books, including publications from TinCanKnits, Kate Davies, Scheepjes and Pompom. We are also a Ravelry Yarn Store.

What will be your highlights for 2021?

Somehow and somewhere we are determined to have our workshop schedule and physical knit groups return safely. We shall continue to grow and develop our website and social media presence. We intend to nurture our woolly community, providing support, education and a safe way of shopping.
