Speedy easter eggs

These pastel pretties can be cast on in leftover yarns from your stash and used to decorate your Easter tree!

EASTER EGGS WIDE STRIPED EGG

Cast on 12 sts using 3mm needles and blue yarn.

Row 1 (and every alt row) Purl.

Next row (K1, inc in next st) to end. [18 sts]

Next row (K2, inc in next st) to end. [24 sts]

Next row (K3, inc in next st) to end. [30 sts]

Next row (K4, inc in next st) to end. [36 sts]

Next row Purl.

Change to yellow yarn.

Next row (K5, inc in next st) to end. [42 sts] Starting with a purl row, stocking stitch 7 rows.

Change to green yarn.

Next row (K5, k2tog) to end. [36 sts] Starting with a purl row, stocking stitch 3 rows.

Next row (K4, k2tog) to end. [30 sts] Starting with a purl row, stocking stitch 3 rows.

Next row (K3, k2tog) to end. [24 sts] Starting with a purl row, stocking stitch 3 rows.

Next row (K2, k2tog) to end. [18 sts]

Next row Purl.

Next row (K1, k2tog) to end. [12 sts]

Next row Purl.

Next row K2tog to end. [6 sts]

Cut yarn and thread through sts.

Pull up sts tightly and secure. Sew seam for about 2cm. Gather round cast-on sts and pull up tightly. Sew seam, leaving a 4cm gap. Turn right-side out. Sew up rem seam, adding some filling as you go. Tie in all loose ends to finish.

THIN STRIPED EGG

Work as for Wide Striped Egg but keeping to a pattern of 2 rows pink, 2 rows yellow and 2 rows purple throughout.

Make up as for Wide Striped Egg, ensuring you sew each stripe on the seam with the correct colour.

SPOTTY EGG

Cast on 12 sts using 3mm needles and cream yarn. Row 1 (and every alt row) Purl.

Next row (K1, inc in next st) to end. [18 sts]

Next row (K2, inc in next st) to end. [24 sts]

Next row (K3, inc in next st) to end. [30 sts]

Next row (K4, inc in next st) to end. [36 sts]

Next row (K5, inc in next st) to end. [42 sts]

Next row P1 cream, P2 pale pink, (P2 cream, P2 pale pink) to last 3 sts, P2 cream, P1 pale pink.

Next row K1 pale pink, K2 cream (K2 pale pink, K2 cream) to last 3 sts, K2 pale pink, K1 cream.

Next row Purl using cream.

Next row Knit.

Next row P1 green, (P2 cream, P2 green) to last st, P1 cream.

Next row K1 cream, (K2 green, K2 cream) to last st, K1 green.

Cont using cream only:

Next row Purl.

Next row (K5, k2tog) to end. [36 sts] Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows.

Next row (K4, k2tog) to end. [30 sts] Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows.

Next row (K3, k2tog) to end. [24 sts] Starting with a purl row, st st 3 rows.

Next row (K2, k2tog) to end. [18 sts]

Next row Purl.

Next row (K1, k2tog) to end. [12 sts]

Next row Purl.

Next row K2tog to end. [6 sts] Cut yarn and thread through sts.

The 2 rows of spots sets the space for the pattern. Swiss darn the other spots, leaving 2 sts between spots and 2 rows between them – where there are dec sts, miss out the spot.

Pull up sts tightly and secure. Sew seam for about 2cm. Gather round cast-on sts and pull-up tightly. Sew seam, leaving a 4cm gap. Turn right-side out. Sew up rem seam, adding some filling as you go. Tie in all loose ends to finish.
