Maxine Carter, Farm Manager at The Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth Charity The Donkey Sanctuary Established 1969 What do you do?
I am the Manager of Slade House Farm at The Donkey Sanctuary’s international headquarters in Sidmouth, Devon. I work with a team of 22 dedicated grooms and together we care for 248 donkeys. The donkeys range in sizes from Mediterranean miniature donkeys, to the very large, long haired Poitou donkeys.
Latest fundraising news
As a charity that relies solely on donations, during normal times, we encourage supporters to come and meet our resident donkeys and learn about our work; both here in the UK and internationally too. This means I am often speaking with visitors and explaining to them why donkeys matter. Across the globe, entire communities rely on donkeys to support their livelihood. When it is safe to do so again, our headquarters will be open to the public to visit free of charge.
What can we do to help?
To help fundraise for us, we are encouraging people to get crafty by making our crocheted ‘Neddys’ and knitted ‘Woolleys’ to sell to their family and friends. Patterns for can be downloaded directly for free from our website – www. thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk/support-us/ get-involved/get-crafty, or by calling our community fundraising team. You may wish to Adopt a Donkey for as little as £3 per month. There are over 20 donkeys to choose from and you will receive an adoption pack that includes two portraits, four beautiful postcards, a certificate and membership card.
